The Sydney Swans face a danger game of vital importance if they wish to keep their finals hopes alive, as they host the improving Carlton Blues. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 1:45pm (AEST).

This game could go either way you feel, but with the way the ladder is shaping up, the Swans can ill-afford to make another mistake after they found a way to fall at the hands of Essendon last weekend.

Poor finishing in front of goal and a lack of execution on plenty of the basic skills cost John Longmire’s side big time late in the game, as they wound up to fall by ten points.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Swans, and while the last of those was against the lowly Gold Coast, they had beaten Hawthorn and the West Coast Eagles in preceding weeks, showing exactly where they can be at their absolute best.

The loss last weekend to Essendon leaves the Swans sitting down in 14th spot, but not without hope, given they are only two wins out of the eight. In saying that, this is a crucial game, and they will need to be better in front of goal as they aim to get some confidence back ahead of a difficult couple of weeks against some of the big-hitters in the competition.

It’s been another tumultuous season at Punt Road, but the Blues are starting to respond in the last month since David Teague took over as care-taker coach.

They have won two of their last four, and while not playing at their absolute best, the results have given Blues supporters more to smile about than they have had in years.

The club are still very much in danger of picking up the spoon though, level on points with the struggling Gold Coast at the foot of the ladder.

They will be out to put on a show in Sydney, with Patrick Cripps needing to lead the way as he roves around the ground. The other key for the Blues will be to shut down Lance Franklin up front, who could have a field day.

Sydney, on the other hand, must find a way to get the basics right. Do that, and they are a better footy side.

Prediction
The Swans are at home and should be up for this following confirmation John Longmire will stay on as coach. It’s hardly going to be a blowout, but it’d be a horrific loss for the Swans if they were to fall.

Swans by 31.

Beat the Suns and Saints and we end up with 6 wins which is about where we were expected to land, probably gets us to 16th at worst and with a PP going to the Suns Adelaide get pick 4 for Stocker and a pick around 10

If we can get Charlie, Cunningham and McGovern all back fit we will be much better.

Surely you’d start favourites against the Suns, Crows will be a lot more difficult. Your last few weeks is very hard; Saints in the penultimate round might be another win barring any surprise upsets.

Our wins under Teague have come against all interstate sides so far, Suns and Crows next two weeks?!

Macca would be good to see GC beat the Crows as Adelaide would drop out of the eight. Just as long as we beat the Suns next week.

Only saw the second half (and with the shadows only saw about half of that) but it seemed the swans were constantly trying to bring the blues down to their level and just make the game a scrap. Why they let Newman just roam across half back unattended was baffling. Good to see JSOS continue his good form. Hopefully we can get two in a row for the first time in who knows how long next week but it is just the type of game we would lose

Any win a good win for the Blues, but really nice to get a tough win leading most of the day and not need a miracle comeback to get the job done. On to the Suns now then fun and games with the Crows after that.

Well done Blues. Scrappy game due to blustery conditions but Carlton look a lot better up forward the past few weeks. Also great to have Murphy and Ed Curnow back in the midfield. Great game from the big Tractor and also Newman dominated down back.

Swans players were dog crap. They play a outdated, boring and frankly just plain crap style of footy. They have no skills whatsoever. The swans just like man United have been destroyed by pathetic and inept management. Needed a refreshing not more of the same crap!!!

I hear the Swans just tore up Horses contract and offered a new one to Rhyce Shaw?

Swans won't be anywhere near finals for the next 10 years and Longmire hopefully won't see out his new contract. Should be sacked not re-signed.

Thanks for joining me for this one here on The Roar. Hopefully you enjoyed the call. Excuse the lack of match report here, but I'm moving straight on to cover Essendon and North Melbourne. Be sure to keep it locked into The Roar for that. Bye for now.

Well, what a win for the Blues. They were the better team and deserved to win in the end. Thoughts Roarers?

FULLTIME The Blues just chipping it around, before the clearance out of the 50 to the boundary will see time expire! Carlton have won their first game at the SCG in eight years, and the Swans finals chances appear to be up in smoke. Swans 8.14 (62) Blues 9.15 (69)

Q4 0' The Swans win a free kick off the restart, then they play it on quickly, but Plowman is taken out and it's a free for Carlton. 30 seconds to go, and that's probably it. Swans 8.14 (62) Blues 9.15 (69)
