The Sydney Swans finish their 2020 season off trying to trip up the top four-bound Geelong Cats at Metricon Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:35pm (AEST).

It was never going to be a successful year for Sydney in 2020, but they’ll be disappointed with a couple they’ve let slip over the last few weeks. They had Carlton on the ropes two weeks ago before switching off and succumbing to a five-point loss, before running out of gas against the Lions last week to go down by 32 after trailing by just two in the last quarter.

It’ll be a tough ask to turn it around against the Cats, however, who’ll be hungry after they were given a touch-up by the Tigers last week. Still boasting the competition’s best percentage, Geelong will be a force come finals time, but they’ll want to blast out the cobwebs against their lowly opponents this afternoon.

The Cats have built themselves a three-game winning streak against an opponent who’s traditionally given them lost of trouble over the years. Last year they notched a 22-point win at Kardinia Park and a 27-point win at the SCG to do the double on Sydney.

Been a great club for a long time Yat, all credit to them. I have never disliked any club of any sport anywhere in the world, but the vitriol on a certain footy site from cats supporters over the Tim Kelly trade was flat out disgusting. Even the moderators were pathetic. So, if I dislike any club in the league, it is the handbags. My 'gifted' comment was meant to agitate and was in response to the Hawkins free kick in front of goal which basically changed the match, but Sydney were their own worst enemy, missing easy chances.

I have seen some interesting comments but this takes the cake. They won seven of their last eight games. Got beaten by one team in the top four and two in the top eight. They played through short breaks and beat top teams. Gifted    No cred.

Yep, he’s all class! He is a good team man too and knows how to bring the team together! Not bad Geelong for a poor game. On and up from here!

Don’t know that game, but have heard of it, ... I think. Anyway, IMO, our season was over when we lost to Bulldogs in round 16. We were never going far into finals, even if we finished 4th, so not kidding myself. Especially with no Yeo, and a sketchy (fitness/form-wise) Kennedy, Gov, Shuey, Cripps, Jetta. Cherry on top (against us) is QLD conditions. Tigers, Port, Lions, Cats are just waaaay more polished. Saints and Bulldogs appear more hungry. Pies always dangerous, especially if De Goey and Mihocek are firing, and Moore defending. (Blessing to have no Sidebottom). But they kinda seem the safest elimination final option. Going to take one heck of a miracle + 180 degree form turnaround in half the team for us to do any damage this finals series. I truly feel sorry for Sheppard, Gaff, and Naitanui, time’s ticking for them. But the squad has been in a bit of a lull for 2 years. Let’s see if they come out firing next year. For those three guys, I hope they do!

Nah cos it’s the Eagles, they won 8 matches at home in a row.

Only home final in week1 though. Would rather be playing in a qualifying with a double chance regardless of what ground it was at, any day of the week!

You’re exactly right nico. I think I’d prefer the home final advantage but a lot depends on who loses in the first week, and as much as I’d like to knock hawks fans off their perch as “most successful club or the afl era” I don’t think the wrangles will be doing it this year as we all remember the last final the bullies played against the eagles in perth

Absolutely. These three teams so promising and exciting. In fact it’s a shame season is ending now just as their momentum increases. Bodes well for 2021.

I think matches between Swans, Dockers and Crows will interesting next year. Who wins that round-robin next year is in the 8

Swans should have won that but pretty excited for next year, playing great running footy. Don't know how far Geelong can go in the finals though. Great game and umpiring better than usual just a couple of interesting calls but ya get that

Great result! Honourable loss. Almost as good as that time we lost the last game of the year to Richmond and kept the Eagles out of the finals altogether!

Sydney made us work for it. In reality they deserved to win, yet I am thankful that we got the win and the double chance.
