Round 17 concludes with a return to Monday night football when the West Coast Eagles host the last-placed North Melbourne Kangaroos in dire need of a return to form. Follow along right here on The Roar with live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

For the first time since 2014, the AFL will play a home-and-away game on Monday night, with Perth’s return to 100 per cent crowd capacity at midnight on Sunday prompting the move.

The Eagles will need every inch of that full house cheering them on to get back to their best, because their recent form has been disastrous. Last week’s 92-point loss to Sydney might have been the club’s worst under Adam Simpson… if not for the 96-point drubbing at the hands of Geelong only a few months ago.

The Eagles still sit eighth, and can leapfrog crosstown rivals Fremantle into seventh with a win here. But their percentage took a hammering against the Swans, and this match presents as one of their few remaining chances to surge it back above 100.

While they’ve only won two matches and drawn one more for the season, the Kangaroos are showing signs of life under new coach David Noble. A fortnight ago, they took down Gold Coast, while they were gallant in defeat last week to the Western Bulldogs.

However, their last trip to Perth back in Round 6 resulted in a dismal 51-point loss to Fremantle. We will see in this game just how much the Roos have improved since then.

Simpson has rung the changes for this clash, with wingman Andrew Gaff and goalsneak Liam Ryan both welcome returns from injury and suspension respectively; while the Roos head in with the same starting 22 as last week.

You western australians get so touchy whenever somebody fails to mention your team. Here's my two cents: Freo are an ordinary side and I don't think they will play finals by the end of the season. Lost to carlton twice and only beaten one top 8 side by 2 points. Got belted by WC, who are cooked this season and lost to the bombers. Don't get too excited after a win over a dreadful hawks outfit either. You lot just get carried away it seems after a game you should be winning. Already said why Gws won't make it. They are just too inconsistent and flirt with their form too often. Sydney and essendon will end their season.

I am not going to say we will thump you. Freo at home, the sort of game we lose. You might have a ruckman. I thought Stanley was poor on Saturday. He seemed low on confidence. I will be interested to see if you get more than seven goals. If I ignore you sometimes, its because your notifications don't come up.

Don't go the early crow yet - you probably will beat WCE, and yet you probably expected to beat them at the prelim in 2018.

Yattz – the Sydney not-15 was probably a square up for the one the previous week against Brisbane though, so I’d say the points are even.

I'm confident. Just covering my butt, pre-empting ridicule from the trolls who never make predictions but will always feed off those that do. Nah, in reality, I think we are as good as the best. Since Logue and Pearce have returned the defence is becoming impenetrable, especially as they get more games into their legs. As JLo says, Thursday's game will indicate where we sit in the pecking order.

Yeah. It would have been handy if Carlton kicked like they did yesterday when they played us. Win that game and we would still have been in contention for top 4. Still, 4 of the past 6 is not bad. Win 4 of the next 6 and we're playing finals. (We'll win 5 or 6 of them.)

Win when you should and have to. Like against Carlton.

Sydney. So no scars there. Actually Sydney do very well at Kardinia.

Yes, they should have won but the umpire called not fifteen after a Cameron mark in front of goal.

Tigers may well do a Bradbury at this rate as more and more bottom eight challengers fall over.
