Most decisions are ambiguous. There was no doubt in this one. Goal technology is used in soccer this way where a ball passes the line . Of course all other decisions stand the way they are but a goal thats clearly over the line is a goal, it deserves nothing less for either side

In a number of sports we are fed "more officials + more technology = more accurate decisions being made. ???????????????????????????

Looking at the position of the goal umpire and the clear view, he obviously is not qualified to be a goal umpire at the highest level.

Exactly, the headline shows a lack of understanding of the process. You can't call this a farce. This is not the Herald Sun. I thought The Roar was better than this.

Any one of a hundred decisions/ non decisions during a game could determine the game. How technical do we need to get?

Its simple . In the case of the game the goal umpire made an error. A ridiculous one but essendon is used to them after Swans player climbed the goalpost which cost us 6 points and the match. In this case the umpire made an error of judgement and nothing can be done about it. What could be done is a rule change to allow clear definitive goals to be overruled within 60 seconds . This was a definite goal . I believe a definitive goal should be allowed to stand where it is not ambiguous. It was a foot over the line per replay so its definitive . It could cost any team the game and thats not right

It's just a mistake. We don't want them stopping play everytime the ball goes near the goal line just in case.

There was no reason for the goal review officer to review this as neither the goal umpire or field umpire called for a review. The game had not stopped as there was no actual score. We only saw it because the broadcaster showed it.

Surely in a case like this the Emergency Umpire / Goal Review Umpire should alert the Central Umpires that a goal has been scored and they should stop the play.
