Hardwick back in May: 'This will be one of the greatest premierships ever won'

By The Roar / Editor

In May, Richmond Coach Damien Hardwick said the challenges around the 2020 season make it one that only the most resilient clubs will be able to overcome.

So far the Tigers have overcome those hurdles with a few off-field incidents along the way. Will they get over the final hurdle in the Grand Final against Geelong?

Tell me dude, how many games did Richmond play at the MCG on their way to the 2020 Premiership?

I love how a certain person who can no longer be relied to had a sook that the WA clubs were sacrificing their seasons by potentially playing home games at GC all season. Fast forward to now and the Grand Finalists did just that and beat teams at their homes in the Prelims.

Just quietly, you and unrealist do seem to work like a double barrel shot gun. You may not be the same person but you must at least know each other.

Play with numbers all you like Pete but the fact is, Collingwood have the oldest list in the AFL, WCE the 2nd oldest and Richmond only the 10th oldest. It's a pretty remarkable position to be in, reigning Premier and only 10th oldest list. History has shown that list age profile makes a huge difference and that the Pies, and Eagles age issues will bite very soon. Tigers probably at least another 5 years in contention? So, is your Mother-in-law going to nominate for the draft? She sounds pretty good!

Yes, based on the top 25 for Richmond and Collingwood you are on average two months younger Realist. Way to support your argument. https://www.afl.com.au/news/379504/take-a-look-through-each-club-s-2020-premiership-window

If a first year Collingwood player achieved as much as Stacky did you'd be a hell of a lot more upbeat, I'm sure. He may not be as good as Cyril but shows signs of being more versatile. Pickett is a bonus. His output will be far greater than his price. So to get these two for next to nothing may well be the steal of the century.

Yes. That Round 23 loss to Hawthorn, a team outside the 8, at home, with a top 2/4 spot on the line was really weak. With plenty of retirements on the horizon you may just be right.

Collingwood should sign your Mother-in-Law up then...she would definitely fit the Pies age profile! Judging by the way they succumbed meekly to a 2nd rate GWS in last years Prelim Collingwood are heading the same way as the Eagles. As the 2 oldest clubs, into oblivion after this year.

Yes, you can judge that on Picketts single senior game against witches hats. My mother in law could have come second to Dusty in the Norm Smith against the spent Giants who played their Grand Final the previous week . Stack has potential but that’s all. Can’t see him turning into Cyril myself.

True Yattuzi, and no bargaining chips left at the trade or draft table either after selling the farm to get Kelly. Add to that, overlooking Stack & Pickett and they're looking at a period in decline I feel.

Funny, the Tigers really where my second side. But the gloating and arrogance by fans was just too much. The Swans where everybody’s second side because they where televised every week. A goal in the last minute in a prelim killed that. With your guys, I have periods of sympathy when they are doing bad but it is hard to make them your second side when they have such a large supporter base. Yes loved Blights style. But not just him. They always have attacked. Except maybe Conan the defender (Ayres). The Ablett slayer. And perhaps the Scott tempo play.

When they played us, they where like stunned rabbits in the spotlight. So many other ordinary performances. At home loss to Hawthorn was terrible. I can see why 36 is mad. The window is slamming shut after this season.

Second and third teams are interesting. For me, I fell in love with Blights super Cats and the way they played footy. Cats have been my second side since. After that, even after 2018, probably the Eagles. They are the heir apparent to Hawthorn as the dominant team of this century. IMO.

But Yattz they were very close to knocking the Tigers off at the G late in the season. They looked really good in that game.

Lack of match practice Yattz and less supervised training past few weeks. I hope I’m wrong but I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of players go down in the first round. I think that’s why Bucks was pushing for scratch matches. The intensity of games will make them stretch just that bit harder and they have had their most unusual lead up since they were all juniors. Maybe 2020 will simply be survival of the fittest.

Why is that? Lack of training? Could be really interesting. JK and Ablett could have a stunning season. Comes down to motivation and drive. Lucky you have Pendles.
