'He'd dominate': Does Jamarra Ugle-Hagan's latest VFL bag prove he's ready for the big time?

By The Roar / Editor

There are some good selection problems at the Western Bulldogs this year!

Gotta be Schache for English I reckon. Can give Stef a chop out and kicks goals. He looks hungry, he should be rewarded with a game.

we've now got English down for at least a week I reckon under concussion rules (I'm guessing), potential replacements are Sweet who could ruck but might be a liability around the ground given his experience, or Schache, who is doing well in the VFL, or Ugle-Hagan to really stretch the Tigers defence considering his speed and marking ability. To be honest both of the 2 have merits, but the dreamer in me wants to see Ugle-Hagan debut. I've seen him in the seconds and you're right he does get a few cheapies, but who doesn't? he's awesome to watch in full flight.

Bulldogs play Richmond next game, then Carlton.

The fact is that Josh Schache is also going pretty well in the twos and if a player like Naughton or Bruce were to get injured then he’s like for like. If they decide to throw the Astronaught back and go with JUH as a wildcard 3rd forward he’d go alright, no doubt, but it’s tinkering with a winning combo. The Dogs VFL side has faced the Suns2s and GWS2s, which have a very different VFL squad. Whereas Footscray tops up with mature age players, the Northern Academy teams top up with Academy underagers. Wait until the Dogs start facing similar clubs in the VFL like Richmond and Geelong who will be a tough challenge.

No chance that Naughton will play in the backline.

I watched the game last night. Really, he got several cheapies in the goal square. Whenever he got a bit of space though he looked unstoppable. With his leap, pace off the mark and hands he'd be just about unstoppable on a lead; this is what Brad Johnson is talking about. He still needs to bulk up a fair bit to be ready for the big time. I wouldn't be surprised if they give him a game later in the year to give him a taste and then put him away again until next year.

Reckon Port should give him a call, see if he's happy in the twos? Happy to hand over 700k for a third year, no probs, and he'll get a game in the one's under Kenny.

I reckon we might see him debut next week against Carlton, noticed Naughton was dropped to the backline on the teamsheet this week.
