Nathan Buckley gives his side of alleged conversation with Adam Treloar

By The Roar / Editor

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has spoken for the first time about allegedly telling former Pies star Adam Treloar that senior players at the club wanted him gone, after the club’s messy Trade Period.

So, do the other assistant coaches call themselves premiership winning coaches? Or have you reserved that exclusively for Buckley to preserve the myth? If Bellichick wants to do that, good for him. He also won a stack as a head coach and I'd bet my house he would NOT include his assistant coaching wins if he didn't have the currency of head coaching wins to back it up. He'd look sad and pathetic otherwise.

Unlike others who say Nathan Buckley has never won a Flag. It was quite apparent to me that he was Assistant Coach on Grand Final Day when Collingwood won.

I’m not buying any of the BS coming from the club I support at the moment. Buckley’s SEN interview was so carefully constructed by him. List Manager Ned Guy doesn’t have the presence or intelligence to do this so stumbled and tripped through his painful Trade Radio segment. Geoff Walsh clumsily reacted too mentioning Stephenson had been “spoken too several times during the year”. I am under no illusion Adam Treloar, who was courted heavily to come to the Pies by Buckley ahead of Richmond, (where he would now have three premiership medallions) was shafted. He was coerced into back loading his contract for a tilt at a flag to accommodate Dayne Beams, (who gave us only 9 games in a four year deal) and has ultimately been managed out by Buckley, Walsh, Ned Guy and the rest. Buckley was careful and crafty with his words as he is a smart bloke but ultimately he is appearing more and more a chameleon. He changes to being a Buddhist style “mindful” personality as he had too in late 2017 (or would have lost his job) but what is underneath? Perhaps he doesn’t know himself any more. The inability to work through young Jaidyn Stephenson who clearly has some issues (but what 21 year old doesn’t?) but has precocious talent is a double whammy. No membership from this fan for 2021 for the first time in decades. Doesn’t mean I won’t want them to win or can support another side ahead of the Pies but my love affair with the club is very rocky. Won’t care in the slightest if the Dogs and Roos beat us next year with both those boys starring.

I think Buckley is being genuine, but there is a striking lack of empathy coming from him. The problem is that Buckley was so good a player he never experienced what it was like to be trade bait, or to unwillingly have to leave a club. He's never ever been a fringe player either and never experienced the threat of being delisted. He was ALWAYS the first player penciled in to the club plans for next year. Come October every year, he knew where he stood. He had ultimate stability. Without the experience he just can't empathise with what Treloar and Stephenson are feeling. So, I think he's being honest, but it's borderline sociopathic. With the possible exception of Goodwin, there's no other current coach in the game who had the iron clad certainty of being a walk up start for life at his club.

Why unlike others? Is Buckley a better assistant coach than anyone else? You're just feeding the FIGJAM mentality..

Unlike others, I think Bucks can claim his Assistant Coach flag. Bill Belichik claims his assistant rings and he has won 6 Super Bowls as Head Coach. He’s also still the best Pies player to not win a flag and will be pushing Rocket Eade to be the best coach to never win a flag.

Buckley club ethos is flawed he will need to be more transparent in exit meetings in future otherwise players leaning towards playing for Collingwood will become non existent.Let alone the poor buggers struggling to play under Buckley in the present. The proof will be in the pudding!

That in turn invites more questions, and shows continued inept management. To be in that position and sign Beams, with question marks like the Riddler's suit all over it! Add in Wells, resigning the boys they traded away, sheeeeeesh!

We stand side by side with all our players… up until we think it’s in our best interest to shaft them.

Buckley's always been this way. He skipped his first AFL Draft to play SANFL, then even when draft by the Bears he demanded to be traded to Collingwood before he'd even set foot in the club. The Bears players made a statement of their own, writing FIGJAM on his locker the day he arrived at the Gabba. It would remain his nickname all season.

For Buckley to invoke “side by side” to justify the way the club has behaved is a disgrace. The means do not justify the ends. Also to say that the salary cap problem has been with us for several years is a revelation. If this is true the club’s actions are inexplicable when they signed Grundy to a 7 contract and are looking to pay DeGoey more when we cannot be certain that he will be able to play.

I've surely been one of Bucks biggest defenders in here for some time but all the sounds from Ned Guy, Geoff Walsh and Bucks since this disaster have appeared as spin.
