Shane Mumford expresses remorse after video appears to show him snorting powder

By The Roar / Editor

The GWS Giants have released a statement after this video of former AFL star Shane Mumford circulated on social media.

GWS STATEMENT:

The Giants are aware of an incident, and associated video footage, regarding Shane Mumford from three years ago.

The club understands the incident took place in 2015 shortly after Shane had suffered a season-ending injury in round 11 that year.

The club is extremely distressed by the footage and views Shane’s actions as completely counter to the club’s values.

The club is disappointed in Shane’s choice of actions at this time and also understands that Shane requires a level of medical support with his health well-being in mind. The club will be working with Shane to ensure he engages in a rehabilitation program along with a range of other measures.

Shane has expressed deep remorse, embarrassment and distress in relation to his actions. He understands he has let himself, his family and the club down and caused great embarrassment to those around him.

The club has kept the AFL informed of this matter.

Totally agree. Worse behaviour is in the hands of the sneak who took the pictures then plastered it all over social media. That to me is far more disgusting than Mumford having a bit of a snort. Was the person a friend? Obviously it was someone in the group at the time. Probably someone also enjoying a bit of a snort. Social media is a sewer hiding under the guise of 'virtue' and no one's lives are any the better since it arrived.

Not much good at your job, Sludge? I can imagine people rushing to you for help. Way to get a wage without working. Just put up the 'Go away!' sign.

You talking about redeeming qualities? Care to list yours? You are the most bitter, unpleasant poster I have ever seen on social media. What you dish up every day is worse than any victim of drugs manages. You act every bit as anti-social while claiming to be sober. That's far worse.

Working in welfare, you see the consequences of a respect less, discipline less , lazy , pathetic , freeloading element of society, drugs are just a bi product.

Funny how people only express remorse after they are outed and not before. His remorse is over the fact that everyone has seen the video not over his actions.

Despite the condescending tone of the above replies I’m happy with my stance . Footy players and fans need to grow up and stop defending this drug use . Working in welfare , I see the effects of drug use daily . I suggest that is a better place to gage an opinion on this then whether you think I’m fun at parties.

He's indulging with a substance which is highly illegal. He's brought the game into disrepute by his actions. I agree footballers shouldn't be role models. All they can do is kick and chase a footy well. Some of them don't have any other redeeming qualities.

Have to agree - these guys are lucky enough to get paid to do what they love - all they have to do to continue this is follow a few rules - if you want to go out and party all the time, don't sign up - once you do everything is public property, although this is true for all sports.

And what good does airing this publicly achieve? If footy players are really 'role models' doesn't it encourage the 'feeble minded' to follow suit? Despite your protests, transgressions of this nature should not be made public.
