Australia will look to produce something approaching their best cricket when that take on an in-form and dangerous Bangladesh side at Trent Bridge. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:30pm (AEST).
While the Aussies are virtually unbackable favourites to take another victory and all but confirm their place in the semi-finals, this is a genuine danger game.
Bangladesh have been strong throughout the World Cup, and while they now have expectation on them – something they have struggled with at times – the situation of this game should suit them down to the ground.
Trent Bridge has already had a lot of cricket played on it throughout the tournament, and so should take spin, which is where their fearsome duo of Mehidy Hassan and Shakib Al Hasan come into play.
The duo have been strong with the ball, but add to that a ruthless batting line-up who mowed down 322 in 42 overs against the West Indies last time out, and you have a combination which should have the Aussies a little nervous.
Now, that’s not to say the Aussie attack is as poor as the West Indies one, but they have been up against it at times, and unless they get early wickets, teams have been really going after Nathan Coulter-Nile, Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff, or Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell, depending on which combination they have played with.
Add to that the struggles of Australia to construct a strong ODI innings, and things have really been a little flat. David Warner’s form continues to raise eyebrows, while the middle order essentially must have Glenn Maxwell go off to keep the scoring up.
They should however, have Marcus Stoinis back tonight, which is a positive if he can make a start to his innings – but given he is an incredibly slow starter and the bowling wasn’t quite up to scratch, it could also be seen as a detriment to the Aussies.
Nonetheless, they have the advantage of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who bowl pace not often seen by the Tigers top order, and that, along with the hitting of Aaron Finch and control of Steve Smith, should prove the difference here.
Prediction
The Aussies should win, but I doubt this will be without some pretty serious struggle against a Bangladesh side who are really punching above their weight.
Australia.

I don't know how he is able to watch, write, reply and observe so quickly every ball, for 8 hours, up to 4am in the morning.

I’m not so sure we can keep blaming the bowlers. These are batting tracks where anything under 330 is under par. Great knock by Warner in the end but if he gets a jaffa when he’s on 40 of 60 he can really set the team back with the over cautious approach.

Ronan’s job is literally to be a commentator and write opinion pieces. If you wanna read fanboy puff prices, there’s plenty of other sites.

Geese looks like Ronan might have to find someone else to hate on now after Stoinis' little cameo tonight, so much for him being a 'selfesh' batsman. Little expensive with the ball but he should get better towards the end of the tournament.

usi batting at 3. i still dont think that he should be there. he opens or isn't in the team. harsh but that was obviously a 400+ wicket for india or england.

Australia still looks a bit shaky bowling wise and hasn’t really put the hurt on anyone yet. The England game will be a big test. Good game for Stoinis with the ball and Warner and Ussie starting to hit form at the right time

Not sure there were too many cracks today. Thought that was closer to a complete performance. Thanks for following mate.

Does that constitute a thumping? BD did well. Aus did better. Aus needs some key improvements as we all know. I can't see what we can do to to vastly improve our bowling approach at this stage. That said, treating BD getting over 300 as a poor Aus performance would not paying BD the respect they earned in this game.

Yeah - sorry Riddler. That's just tiredness and the wrong name coming out.

Australia defeat Bangladesh by 48 runs Australia have gotten the better of Bangladesh by 48 runs at Trent Bridge. Set up by their batting, with David Warner's 166 leading the way, there were few nervous moments with the ball, and it always felt like they had the upper hand. WICKET! Mashrafe Mortaza, Caught Glenn Maxwell, Bowled Marcus Stoinis 6 (4) That'll be all she wrote. Mortaza pulls a length ball to deep mid wicket and it's caught on the boundary as Maxwell comes running around to take a good catch. Over: 50 Bangladesh: 8/333 Required score: 382
