Day two of the first Ashes Test promises to be crucial as Australia look to build on a stunning first day and England look to fight their way back into the contest at the Gabba, Brisbane. After being bowled out for 147, England have a lot of work to do and the first session will be a tense contest. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 10:00am AEDT.
Day one of the Ashes 2021/22 series didn’t fail to disappoint. From the first ball when Mitchell Starc bowled Rory Burns, to the final wicket of the day when skipper Pat Cummins got his five wicket haul, it was an enthralling day of Test match cricket and Australia got the better of almost every moment.
Thanks to the rain and bad light stopping play at tea time on day one, today will start 30 minutes earlier and England will want to take quick wickets. You’d expect Joe Root to have spent Wednesday evening watching replays of how the Australians got their wickets – plenty of pitched up bowling that drew the batsmen into tricky decisions.
With only 147 runs on the board, Root might be afraid to attack but attack he must as the only thing that can save England is doing to Australia what Australia did to his side on day one.
For Australia, the challenge is simple – bat England out of the match. Fans and pundits alike will be watching carefully to see if the Aussie batting line up can deliver in the same way that the bowlers did on Wednesday. Dave Warner, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne all have great talent but do they have the form to put pressure on England?
The Australian middle order has some question marks hanging over it with Alex Carey on debut at Test level and Cameron Green still unproven in the early stages of his career.
The weather is likely to play an ongoing role in this first Test and so both sides will want to get on with things and make the most of the forecast early sun.
An enthralling day of Test cricket awaits and both sides need to go for the jugular.

Great move by Cummins to listen to smith And not refer to drs several overs ago after lunch today . The captain listening to his VC on drs wisely Great overhead catch by Carey for first wicket too

Lions 8 for 80 today looks like we can run A line through the batting form yesterday although mitch marsh may have lead the line

"Methinks thou protesteth too much." The only angry tone is coming from you - both this morning and with your constant denigration of cricketers you don't like. If you don't like being reminded of your shortcomings, don't provide evidence of them.

Only thing I debated with head was khawaja and maddinson . No animosity they were and are all pressing with shield form . Next . Don a bit angry this morning

Absolute rubbish . I've said he has been reckless in past giving his wicket away with streaky shots outside off and being baited by England in to shots in uk but always said he's had the talent . I'm a fan if he gets consistent and plays carefully. Of course this is not an English pitch wherr they lured him in to some reckless shots with line and length and field placements outside off. So once again your wrong don . Making it up as you go along . Next

That's the problem with making so many outlandish put downs of selections. You forget what you've said.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
You said it both passionately and abusively.

Commentators keep banging on about how leaving Broad out is a big loss? Considering Robinson is the Broad replacement he is doing a way better job and you would imagine Anderson will definitely come into the side he might not have been feeling 100% for the first game.

I've never said head isn't up to it I've always said he has the talent . What rabbit will don pull out of his hat next
Pierro

No never said that either .

It has been your reason for saying Head is not up to it...your incorrect reason.

You'd only sub khawaja in for Harris who as I predicted did not perform Jeff . Never had anything against head .
Pierro
Roar Rookie
Didn't say it wasn't don not sure what your trying to say as I agree

He fished and could easily have edged early on . Robinson and wood had the better of him as they did with most of our bats before and after lunch . What then happened was stokes came on and was struggling and head went after him and then attacked leach who was poor . Wood and Robinson got tired without stokes with only woakes and leech to rotate with in the heat .Great innings from then on in . Stop talking rubbish don

Yes but I can see how my compelling opinions have affected you. Nothing made up by me. No stats at all. They are rarely relevant. Cheer up. Just don't give my comments so much weight. You have control over that.
