Australia remain in the box seat with a lead of 152 in the fifth Test against England, but will need to bat well on day three to give themselves the best chance of a 4-0 series win. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 2:15pm (AEDT).
After bowling England out for just 188 – despite some ordinary slips catching – the Aussies struggled to 3-37 in the tricky night session on day two.
David Warner completed his topsy-turvy campaign with a dreaded pair, falling once again to his nemesis Stuart Broad; while Marnus Labuschagne (5) and Usman Khawaja (11) fell cheaply.
It fell to nightwatchman Scott Boland to see the team safely to stumps with no further damage, taking much of the strike in a partnership with Steve Smith to ensure both will be there for the start of day three.
On a pitch that remains difficult to play on, especially against the new pink ball, any lead of over 300 for Australia will almost certainly be a bridge too far for England, who haven’t crossed that threshold all series.

Aspley on Brisbane’s outer north side. Have an uncle in the neighbouring Kedron, so always stay with him when I have cricket there of a weekend.

You claimed he had no technical issue he was just getting out to a bad ball Ahhhh. Again, I give up on you Don. You’re a complete lost cause Edit It’s so rare to have an article totally vindicating an argument coming straight from the source. It really is a thing of beauty. This was our discussion that started our feud. Bad luck Don, you lose old chum. We both knew it at the time but now it couldn’t be more black and white. You’re nothing but an old dinosaur

You make no point. We all know he opened his stance in the first 2 tests and adjusted after chats with a couple of past players and coaches. That's no news to anyone. Yet you make no point. That has nothing to do with any conversation anyone is having. We are talking about Nathan Lyon. Just...strange.

Speaking of me being completely correct and you sticking your head in the sand, here is an article quoting your love child where he admits to making technical adjustments (as I said were present) mid series. More to cricket coaching than just 'getting a good one' Maybe it's time you started listening to others Don? https://www.cricket.com.au/news/cameron-green-ricky-ponting-mid-series-technique-tweak-batting-ashes-form-australia-series/2022-01-17

But you were and are wrong. That's borne out by the result of the game and the series. You keep drawing attention to how wrong you've been. That's a strange ploy.

It's knowledge of the game. I called it before the test started Just to be clear this test is now the record for dismissals by seam in a test ever - 39 I honestly don't know why you come on the roar Don. You never listen to any perspective apart from your own. You just stubbornly keep repeating your opinion over and over. A man has the capacity to admit when he is wrong and learn. You should try it
Don Freo

The only reason he wasn't used in Hobart was because the Test only went two and a half days. The pitch was beginning to crack ( Root's dismissal) and day 4 and 5 he'd be in his element. Another quick was not required and Swepson would have been less likely to bowl than Lyon. In Sydney, Lyon took some important wickets. It's just a grudge you have and a determination to be right about something despite unsustainable arguments. Let it go; you'll enjoy cricket a lot more. Just because you like one cricketer doesn't mean you have to hate all the other candidates.

not at all I would select Lyon at Gabba , Adelaide pink ball , Perth and probably mcg every day of week . we all know he loves bouncy Australian wickets . he's a rare spinner that way but when leech and jadeja out bowl him with wickets in innings at scg two years running and he doesn't bowl at Hobart the writing is on the wall to rotate at those grounds . I raised this points last year before scg and this year and before Hobart .
Don Freo

Read the comment above. You two just don't get the game. You have an anti-Lyon axe to grind and that doesn't require thought. You're certainly in your element there.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
He wasn't needed. A finger spinner, if needed would always bowl ahead of a wrist spinner on a green wicket. Lyon's bounce would have been very difficult. He just wasn't bowled because the quicks took all the wickets. It's pretty obvious.

Spinner not used on a green top was a good selection, is that what you're arguing? Honestly you're beyond help
Pierro
Roar Rookie
Not about dropping Lyon it's about rotating him . Richardson was the better selection on the green deck . Of course Lyon fielded and batted really well and he would be instant selected at most grounds in Australia . just not scg and a green top at Hobart . he didn't even bowl which says alot really. poor form by selectors
Pierro
Roar Rookie
micko his 30 first innings and fielding probably got Australia another 60 runs in total no doubt about that just Richardson may have been the right choice on this wicket for bowling . Add Carey's 49 and greens demo and theres some very quiet dissenters around on a few players that people were questioning two tests ago

Everything he was asked to do, he did with excellence. You'd drop him? What a glum piece of work you are.

Pick him for his fielding eh? You should be a national selector Don
