The ODI series between Australia and India continues at the Adelaide Oval. Will Australia take the series? Or can India level at one win apiece? Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 2:20pm (AEDT).

Australia got their first win of 2019, taking a 34-run victory over the visitors at the SCG on Saturday evening.

A 92-run partnership between Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh, while slow, helped Australia to their competitive total.

Peter Handscomb’s 73 off 61 balls was Australia’s best contribution with the bat.

Buvneshwar Kumar got the early breakthrough for India, bowling Aaron Finch for just six runs, while Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets for 54 runs in his 10 overs.

Australia’s 288 run total was deemed modest by most, and maybe 30 or so runs short.

With the new ball in hand, Jason Behrendorff got Australia off to the perfect start. Shikhar Dhawan, facing his first delivery for the evening, was trapped lbw by an in-swinging length ball from Behrendorff.

A mini-collapse followed, including captain Virat Kohli for three runs, and India found themselves in the dangerous position of three wickets down for just four runs.

Enter experienced pair Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, who put together a 137-run partnership and kept India in the hunt. Sharma went on to bat until the 46th over, making 133 runs in a losing chase.

India finished up 9/254 after their 50 overs, 34 runs short, and Australia went up 1-0 in the series.

Mitch Marsh missed Saturday’s game after being hospitalised during the week, but is fit to play in Adelaide if selected.

Plenty of Australians voiced their frustration with the home side’s batting order in the first ODI.

With the run rate seemingly needing a boost at the end of the innings, Glenn Maxwell sat in the rooms until the fall of the fifth wicket, facing just five balls for 11 runs.

Will we see the same lineup, or something a little different at the Adelaide Oval?

India announced Vijay Shankar and Shubman Gill will replace Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, who were sent home from the tour. All-rounder Shankar joins the squad in Australia, while batsman Shubman Gill will join the team on their tour of New Zealand.

Ambati Rayudu was reported for a suspect bowling action in Saturday’s game, but is allowed to continue bowling until the results of required biomechanical testing are known.

Prediction
Australia’s refreshed lineup beat India once, can they do it again?

India to bounce back and level the series in Adelaide.

Sorry Rob, can’t agree with that. Marsh has been very good in the field, not sure where this notion of him leaking runs comes from. It’s probably true for Khawaja, but not Marsh. You really need to get over your bias against Shaun Marsh.

Yeah it's a lot of pressure on Richardson to bat at 8.

I agree Nudge. Chris Lynn is far superior to Finch in batting. Khawaja and Marsh are the same and both don’t really work especially not together. Dohni and Kohli beat Australia running between the wickets in the last 10 overs. Stoinis, Marsh and Khawaja don’t run well and leak a few in the field. Probably the difference of 30-40 runs at the end of 100 overs. Whilst Marsh was a star with the bat he does put pressure on those he is batting with to take risks he isn’t prepared to take.

Agreed - seems pretty basic maths that if they can get 2 a ball with minimal risk they will win. At least bring the field up and make them win it!

Yep, and that’s why l have Marsh as a certainty for the World Cup and Khawaja very doubtful.

You guys don’t seem to get it. That was a perfectly paced One Day innings from Shaun Marsh, couldn’t have done it much better. 9.5/10 (only because he didn’t make it to the end, but who could blame him in that heat!)

That’s ridiculous, Rob. Let’s leave it at that.

Bit harsh on Marsh’s running... At age 35, in 41 degree heat and carrying the Australian top 6 on his back, I think he did a great job! I also keep hearing that he’s an average fielder, but I’ve seen no sign of that. The last few games he’s been almost flawless. As a better batsman, fielder and runner than Khawaja, it seems reasonably obvious who, out of the two, should get the nod.

In that scenario dhoni had already run a lot in 38 degrees

Finch not good in Maths as proved before. Not keen on Finch's fielding strategy either. But then again we don have any other captain options.

I think its fair to say Tendulkar was silly, just like Mcgrath was erratic, Border was a scardey cat and Curtly Ambrose was a short fat white man.

Finch Siddle Lyon and Khawaja have done themselves no favours in regards to selection for the World Cup over the past 2 games. I think it’s safe to say that Siddle is no chance, and Khawaja is extremely doubtful. We can’t have both S.Marsh and Khawaja in the same team. Running between the wickets was nearly the difference tonight. Kohli and Dhoni were just absolutely lightening and would have got at least an extra 10 runs. S.Marsh and Khawaja just labour between the wickets and are both average fieldsmen. Lyon has bowled 20 overs 0 for 109. He was brought into the team to take wickets in the middle overs. If Agar comes back into the team for Lyon he automatically fixes a weakness at no 8, and he’ll be more economical than Lyon. I think Maxwell is as good a one day bowler as Lyon. Finch gets more games to find form, because he’s a proven world class white ball cricketer, and we need him to captain. I think the certainties now for the World Cup are Behrendorff, Richardson, Starc, S.Marsh, Carey, Warner, Stoinis and Maxwell. Likely to go Smith Handscomb and Mitch Marsh 4 more spots 2 spinners. 2 of Zampa, Lyon or Agar. I’m hoping Zampa and Agar 1 quick. Cummins or Hazlewood. I’m hoping Cummins. 1 other bat khawaja Lynn or Finch. I’m hoping Finch comes good

Of course but Kuldeep is a superstar in ODIs so you'd expect him to outperform Lyon

I'd like to see Starc, Cummins or Hazlewood replace Siddle for game 3. I'm serious about winning this series. I'm not sure Cricket Australia is because they don't want to field their best side.

Story summarized, finch couldn't move a field and that short cover couldn't stop a ball

Thank you all for tuning in this evening, was certainly an enjoyable game to cover and I appreciate all of your comments throughout the afternoon/evening! Plenty of questions still surround the Australian line up, will be interesting to see if there are changes to the side for Friday. Scott will be covering that game for you, while I'll be around afterwards for the Scorchers vs Hurricanes BBL match, from Perth at 9:00pm AEDT.

True. I think Australia would’ve bought those two wickets for an 11 run net lose though.

That's a bugger about the forecast, hopefully it's clearer than expected. Another close game would be a brilliant end to the series.
