After a thrilling victory in the first ODI, Australia will aim to wrap up the series against New Zealand in the second game of a three-match series in Cairns. Join The Roar for live scores from 2:20pm AEST.
Cameron Green and Alex Carey were the heroes in the Aussies’ Game 1 victory by just two wickets, each scoring 80s in a tense win. Green in particular has been lauded for his breakout ODI performance, shrugging off heavy cramp to steer the team home, but has been rested from the second match.
However, questions remain about the form of captain Aaron Finch heading into T20 and ODI World Cups in the next 18 months, with the skipper’s wretched run of form continuing against the Black Caps. Averaging a tick over 14 for the year in 50-over cricket, Finch needs a big score sooner rather than later.

I guess you didn't read my comments. You know, the ones about slogfests being boring. But, you know, carry on being ignorant....

I’d go Green and Inglis for Stoinis and Finch. They won’t drop Finch so Green and Inglis for Stoinis and Marnus will have to do in the next game. Possibly Agar gets a run too somehow.

You mean these weren't the squad players?

Sorry, should have been clearer... In the team announced for tonight's match, those selected in positions 1-5 ,with the exception of Smith, scored less collectively than Adam Zampa, selected at eight.

Well bugger me with a billiard table wikipedia says he was born in NSW! Welcome home old son, another champion for the baggy blue Ahem My intention remains the same, hope he goes well in the longer form domestic league. Has the skills to be a red ball player

'More poor batting than bad batting' Apologies, that's nonsense. More poor batting than good bowling was what I was aiming for there. Gotta set the record straight

No …he’d be in the top 3….obviously you know know much about cricket

If Abbott and Stoinis are among the wickets, that tells a sad tale about the Kiwis. If Finch was anyone else, he'd have been long gone. If Stoinis didn't have one great innings, he'd have been long gone.

Zampa was just as important with the bat. A bit unlucky to not get M of M.

Agree. Even if we're on top 2-0 up in a three game series is time to give the squad players a game

This is the big concern.. historically the selectors haven't really looked beyond the result. Yep Australia won, but that doesn't mean there aren't huge concerns around this team and particularly the top order. Personally I hope to see some changes for game 3, but overall significant changes are required if they are to challennge at next year's World cup.

Sorry Rabbitz, I’ll let you get back to your obvious T20 addiction. Just grab a hit of every bloke and his dog cruising along at 10 an over, while the odd wicket stifles the run rate for at least one ball. It’s all good though every game is played on a road and bowlers are largely superfluous, but Geez gotta witness at least 2 to 3 boundaries an over otherwise it ain’t cricket, Seriously I get why I am a merely rookie status, HTF you are a guru is beyond me.

What a bloody phenomenal bowling performance. All out 82 WTF Zampa 5-35, Abbott 2-1 !!! Starc 2-12 Abbott econ 0.2 Unbelievable stuff. This pitch really didn't look to warrant such results. More poor batting than bad batting? Can't take credit away from those numbers though. Well done Aus on retaining the trophy

Ok New Zealand were worse but this is just a papering over the cracks. Our batting is awful and the fact that we've already retained the Chappell Hadlee says a lot about how poor New Zealand have been, not anythung about how good our side is. My point stands, severe change is needed, starting with the captain!

I have no problems with the pitch lgda. I've loved the contest in both games. The top order batsmen might agree with you tho
