It’s day two at the Gabba, where things are evenly poised between Australia and South Africa. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 11:20am (AEDT).

Australia were almost flawless with the ball, taking advantage of a green wicket at Brisbane against a hapless South African batting lineup. Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne showed some resilience, but bar that it was been nothing short of disappointing for South Africa with the bat.

To the Proteas’ credit, their pace attack has kept them in the game and had the Aussies under huge pressure at 3-27. However, Travis Head led the way with a counter-attacking 78 so far, to leave the Aussies trailing by seven runs with five wickets in hand.

Day two promises to be as exciting as day one, with neither side willing to back down. For the Proteas, they would want to bowl the Aussies out for less than 200 and get some runs on a wicket that should play better over the next two days or so. As for Australia, they would want Head to continue, while Cameron Green, Alex Carey and the bowlers will need to chip in with the bat to get a massive first-innings lead.

The result also makes me a little nervous going in to mcg test and foreign tours . Still it was a very green wicket . I suspect batting will be easier at McG and provide a better perspective on where both teams are at with batting as it is likely to be somewhere in middle for batting compared to Gabba and scg

absolutely it's why I said SA batting is weak at moment . still I feel like Australia only won the Gabba match by around 50 runs

Think it's just a cultural difference, Stuck. "Faking it to make it" would be laughed off as just a bit of fun down here. A play on words, but not much more than that :)

That's because he's a West Aussie.

"Sometimes “you have to fake it, to make it” Another example of how a very self-loathing and a discouraged behavior can be put in such a lighter and funny way that one can even take pride from it. Sometimes it's just the words or the narrative that makes the difference.

Well I don't want to see that pitch which is ridiculously in favour of the bowler or a road that heavily favours the batsmen - it needs to be somewhere in between that gives both a chance. There were brief periods when Head and Smith were batting in the first innings, when Cameron Green came out to bat and when Bavuma and Verryenne were batting together in SA's first innings where the batting was better or equal to the bowling. But when the bowlers started to dig it in just short of a length with pace it looked downright dangerous for batting. That is not a fair contest.

Can you run backwards for 25 minutes each week and hug a couple of opponents? If so, the position's yours.

Respect is earned. His captaincy has been marked by its selfishness, including accepting the ODI job on the basis of "when I feel like playing".

The batting commentators, the bowling commentators or Jim Maxwell?

I wonder if CA ever tells Fox how to use its cameras. Certainly, Fox/7 could take some lessons from Channel 9. It would be handy to be able to see a completed catch without it going out of frame.

Hard to get runs overseas if they don't pick you. In the form he's in, there would be no reason it won't continue overseas. Form is always what matters; never venue.

If you've already got the Woods outfit, you may as well have a run with the Dragons

I was at the ground mate and the cheer that went up when Nortje bowled that last boundary wide was really something.
