Australia will continue to press for a Test victory over Sri Lanka on Day 4 at Manuka Oval. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the day, starting from 10:30am (AEDT).

Sri Lanka resumed Day 3 on 3 for 123, looking to chase down Australia’s first innings total of 534, but that objective never looked like being achieved.

Tim Paine’s side took wickets and took wickets quickly, which saw the Sri Lankan side dismissed for 215.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers come the end of the innings, as he finished with 5 for 54. Nathan Lyon picked up two wickets, although you could argue he could have had more, as he did look a constant threat, especially to the left-handers.

Pat Cummins and Marnus Labuschagne both finished with one wicket each. Dimuth Karunaratne was the only Sri Lankan to get above 50.

Paine decided to bat again despite having a substantial lead, but the Aussies did not get off to a great start.

Marcus Harris (14) and Joe Burns (9) had to depart early as they were both snicked off by Kasun Rajitha and Vishwa Fernando.

Labuschagne did the same moments later as he was dismissed for four by Rajitha.

Travis Head steadied the ship and continued his good form with a half-century. It was Usman Khawaja though who took the most from the Australian second innings, scoring an unbeaten 101.

Paine declared setting Sri Lanka a total of 516 runs to win.

Lahiru Thirimanne (8) and Karunaratne (8) opened the batting for Sri Lanka and got through until the end of the day, which did come early due to bad light.

Sri Lanka will resume day four 0/17 needing 499 more runs to win.

Australia no doubt will win this Test match and one wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen on day four.

Fantastic record absolutely. But after 20 Tests Rabada averaged 24.6.

Incidentally Travis Head now 14 test innings for 5x50s, 1x100 and an average of 51. Good start, and has looked the part. just don't slash outside off Trav.

Ashes squad for mine 1. Warner 2. Burns 3. Khawaja 4. Smith 5. Patterson 6. Head 7. Paine (c) (wk) 8. Cummins 9. Starc 10. Lyon 11. Hazlewood 12. Maxwell 13. Richardson 14. Tremain (would consider Siddle in England) 15. Agar 16. Carey (wk). or else a 15-man squad and take Handscomb as 12 instead of Maxwell and he’s an emergency replacement at wk, till Carey flies over.

Rabada 35 tests, 168 wickets at 21.41. Impressive stuff.

Yeah from what I gathered it was his fastest average speed ever. With shape. Whilst I'm one who has seriously queried whether he is now a luxury, I like the guy and am happy to see him give it back to those like me who questioned him.

I actually don't think Mendis has the look of a guy who'll succeed, but Karunaratne does. Time will tell.

Mitchell Starc named the Player of the match. Pat Cummins named the Player of the series.

And he may well turn out to be a quality batsman, but he’s still very green. (Edit: I actually only saw Mendis name in your comment JamesH, half blind obviously) Anyway, semantics – well done Starc and Aus.

Mendis and Karunaratne are better than their overall figures suggest. Mendis scored more than 1000 test runs in 2018.

So, Cummins or Head for Man of the Series? Cummins 14 wickets in 4 innings at 7.79, Head 304 runs in 3 innings at 152.

Plenty of quality? I dunno about that Ronan... they have one batsman that averages above 40 in test cricket, Chandimal (with Mathews not playing). That's a bit like saying Australia had "plenty of quality" in their line up because we had Khawaja in it...

What a comeback by Starc in this Test. Sri Lanka might be fielding a second-string attack due to injury but there is plenty of quality in their batting lineup and he's absolutely wrecked them.

WICKET! Fernando has been bowled by Starc, which brings up his fifth wicket of the innings. Fernando departs for a duck. SL: 149 Overs: 51 Target: 516
