Australia must set themselves to bat like they’ve never batted before to hang on after an England onslaught saw the hosts take control of the fourth Ashes Test. Join The Roar for live scores from 8pm (AEST).
67 runs to the good with seven wickets in hand after Zak Crawley’s century led England into a commanding position after two days’ play at Old Trafford, heavy rain expected across Days 4 and 5 might be Australia’s only salvation.
But to get there, they’ll need to keep England’s runs down however they can, before digging in on a wicket that appears to be showing signs of uneven bounce.
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester
First ball: 8pm (AEST)
TV: Nine Network

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/forecast/gcw25uekz#?date=2023-07-23 Back half of Sunday looks every chance to get playable patches…40% chance of rain means 60% chance it isn’t. The way Australia is playing, one session would be adequate.

It’s England, we don’t need rain gods here.

It will rain until 4pm Sunday.

Of course England batted too long. We were never playing for anything other than a draw. Had they put us half hour before lunch this test would now be over. I was happy to see them batting...and batting...and batting, because as has been demonstrated, we can't bat...or bowl.

As late as possible to try and get England a win. They delayed forever yesterday to get the covers on and then busted a gut to get us back out there as soon as it stopped. Same as Headingly.

For the moment at least, day 5 looks pretty playable with minor interruptions. Certainly playable enough for a result anyway, on current form.
