The Border-Gavaskar Trophy heads to the city of Indore for the third Test between Australia and India. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEDT).

After imploding in one session Delhi, Australia have had over a week to recover and regroup as they play for World Test Championship points to secure a spot in the upcoming final.

Skipper Pat Cummins is back home for personal reasons, meaning Steve Smith will step in as Test captain in his absence. David Warner is out of the series, and with Matthew Renshaw low on confidence after a few failures, Travis Head is set to open alongside Usman Khawaja.

Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc are certain to play, having recovered from their Boxing Day Test injuries, which will be a massive relief for the Australian camp.

India did not change their Test squad for the rest of this series and are expected to name the same XI, unless there is a late change of mind with Shubman Gill replacing KL Rahul.

While Virat Kohli has not gotten the big runs yet this series, he is batting as well as he has in almost two years – looking more assured in attack and defence after a horror tour of Bangladesh.

India will be looking towards him and skipper Rohit Sharma to step up and get India a big first-innings total.

Prediction

Indore is usually a good batting wicket, and we saw all but one game in Ranji Trophy games this season where teams batting first scored excess of 300.

While Australia do get some troops back, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will remain in India and the hosts are desperate to embarrass the Aussies 4-0 en route to another WTC final.

With the Indians boasting a long middle order and three quality spinners who can do the damage in Asia, I can’t see anything other than an India win late on day four.

Fair enough. I'm about giving guys a break. Like we should've blooded Morris. Hazlewood is quite an iffy project. Starc a big leaker, non-wicket-taker on some grounds. Having Morris play here in India is a big missed opportunity. The Australian Selector's set the tone. I give kudos on Kuhnemann unfortunately we didn't get Murphy doing a lot.

Correct - - and no silly sweeps and he gets forward and uses his bat!! What was interesting - - Khawaja was doing so well..........but just couldn't resist the big cross bat swipe.

interesting on chapelli I just think you've got to master your key skill abroad before you captain . if your not batting well abroad with a lower average then you get dropped so captaincy seems a distance away for head but I still believe he can pull it off he was certainly excellent during the Aussie summer and India is not easy I just think Smith is best option until head racks up a great series abroad m hoping the ashes is that series

My point is Chappelli was going nowhere as a bat until he was given the captaincy and he took off as a batsman upon that responsibility.

Cry babies are the ones who want all conditions to be in their favor even before the game begins.

Radical technique; uses the middle of the bat to defend.

expect that's the equation to win ..minimum 250 Aus. India make 250 in return Aus chase 110 to 150n

For me though head has to furfill his key skill on your first : batting . once he has had a decent foreign tour or two then he can lead . you can't flunk your key skill on tours before being captain surely .understand re the need for him to open in india of course as the runs are there in first 25 overs and he's hitting it well . jadaja and his low bouncing slider spin seems to master every Aussie though after 25 overs

"Good, I’m sure they would have been crying and whining about the pitch demons if they’d been embarrassed today as well." Didn't though.

Videos won't even be used soon. It'll all be adjudicated with sensors in the balls, stumps and bails.

From the umpires point of view, yes, not so much the players. Players play, that's subjective. Umps umpire, that's objective.

You sound like my fan. Why don't you become a detective instead of meticulously following my impeccable posts. You have about as much talent as the Aussie batting line-up kek

"Trusty Dusty" troolled regularly and then stepped up to the making of raycist remarks and so got kicked from the site. TD then reincarnated themselves under "Truth Rocks". Same approach and same outcome as above. So TR has now reincarnated themselves as "Trusty Guru" (above). They only trooller on this site. Regularly kicked off, but regularly allowed back on under different aliases. Sad really, all round.

The current system supports the umpires, which I think is good

I don’t like the subjectivity of referrals. All decisions should be handled objectively. We will have lasers stump 2 stump with a sensor in the centre of the ball to know LBWs instantaneously, bat on ball will also be registered inside the ball and other things that’ll make what we do now look like the Amish.

Australia are in commanding position, a lead of 150 would be great. Hope they will not start sweeping tomorrow.
