Australia need to win to keep their T20 series against New Zealand alive, as they clash at Wellington Regional Stadium in Game 3 of the five-match series. Join The Roar for live scores of the match from 5pm (AEDT).
These two sides played out an absolute thriller in their most recent clash on Thursday, with New Zealand’s hefty total of 219 coming under serious threat thanks to monster knocks from Marcus Stoinis (78 off 37 deliveries) and Daniel Sams (41 off 15), but a brilliant final over by James Neesham – the only over he bowled all day – saw both removed and allowed the Black Caps to hold on by four runs.
In the end, the Aussies were left to rue a rough innings in the field that saw the hosts get to 151 for the loss of just one wicket.
While there were signs of improvement, Australia still weren’t that impressive with the bat outside of the aforementioned duo and Josh Philippe – with the first T20 demonstrating quite plainly the extent to which they need to improve if they’re to be any chance of turning this series around.

I do care. I care passionately that this concoction. I won't call it a sport, It is a made for tv entertainment and I care that it has disrupted the unique and traditional game of cricket. That anyone see's value in the endless stream of corporatised matches or the trite, banal, mind numbing scenario's and commentary that they produce is frankly beyond me. The product is so sterile and so one dimensional as to appear to have been taken from the pages of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World." An existence where the population is anesthetised to the world around them. A half life where the air is removed, where “One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them.” Just because a couple of loud mouth boof heads in the commentary box say something is IMPORTANT or HUGE or SENSATIONAL 50 times an innings doesn't make it so. I guess it does have some therapeutic value. I must remind my nurse should I ever get dementia to put the BIG BASH on whilst I nibble away at a few KFC Drumsticks. I guess it is true, there is a certain freedom that comes with being beyond care but mercifully I am not at that stage just yet - Don.

How so? If you don't put runs on the board you always run the risk of getting dropped. Both Finch and Maxi hadn't put the runs on the board recently and I think it's only fair to suggest they had some question marks around them. I wasn't suggesting Maxwell be dropped, but I was suggesting that he should have been under a bit of pressure to start performing considering how poor he has been in the last few games.
Odds are way higher that happening in the biff and bash T20 than any other game - exactly why the game is a joke of a game and needs to be consigned to history. There is no future for T20 unless you want the game of Cricket to become an international joke.

Maybe he meant Finch?

I get the impression that soon we won’t be able to keep Green out of any format

“ Maxwell keeps his spot because of innings” - ahh, no. If you think he was anywhere near getting, or deserving of being, dropped regardless of that innings, clueless

Probably what I'd go with too, I think he plays that finisher role better. Stoin takes longer to get going.. Cam Green a potential option too, although I'd rather he sticks to the longer format.

I'm really sad got belted for 17 runs off 4 overs on the weekend, 51 and still hoping for my 7 for, cant seem to get there. Left arm over and change to around no worries, any tips. 3 for 6 last weekend off six overs. Help me or should I just give up. (light hearted)

I think this looks pretty good. Ashton Agar played fantastic today and was named Man of the Match for his 6/30 off 4 overs. Maxwell played brilliantly scoring 70 off 31 today. On the other hand, Josh Phillipe is likely to book his spot in the T20 World Cup in India.

That was 40 off 9 by Maxi just before he got out.

Does anyone in Australia or New Zealand for that matter even care. Surely the only interest in this cookie cutter cricket resides in India.

Meredith was very impressive on debut. Accuracy at close to 150kph is a real weapon.

Great win. Few good takeaways. Great to see Finch gain some form, much needed, although he should have been out first ball lbw. Runs are runs though and he desperately needed them. Maxwell keeps his spot because of innings like that, he won't come off every game, but he is so damaging when he does. Philippe needs to take the gloves in the T20 WC. There isn't room for both him and Wade and I reckon they are on par with the gloves but Philippe is miles ahead with the stick.. looks a fantastic player and should be our short form keeper whilst Carey focuses on becoming the long form keeper. Meredith looks a good option and Jhye needs to lift. Those two in particular should form part of our pace attack along with Cummins, Starc and Hoff. Agar and Zampa should be both play, period. Can't believe all the people calling for Agar to get dropped. My team for t20 World cup.
