Australia takes on Pakistan in Pakistan for the first time in 24 years. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog for this historic first day of the three-Test series.
After successfully retaining the Ashes with a 4-0 walloping of England, the Australian team will be out to prove that they can also succeed in away Test Matches.
Pakistan will be a unique experience for so many reasons.
Players are under tight security and that will be a distraction in itself but mastering the conditions will also be challenging to deal with.
Despite being in the sub-continent Pakistan has been a tough place to bowl for the spinners.
A recent statistic showed that spin bowlers average over 30 runs per wicket for the fourth innings of Test matches played in the country.
Before this series Australian spin bowler Nathan Lyon said that he didn’t expect much spin at all.
If those predictions turn out to be correct then wickets are likely to come mainly from pace bowlers and reverse swing will be crucial.
Pakistan currently sit third on the World Test Championship behind Australia.
They have two players in the top 10 of the player ratings including batsman Babar Azam (9th) and fast bowler Shaheen Afridi (4th).
Like most Test nations these days, Pakistan is a much better team in home conditions and it could well be a war of attrition judging by the flat looking Pindi Cricket Stadium pitch.

Couldn’t recommend it any more highly. And those in the mountains of the north themselves see their existence as quite separate to the rest of the country’s shenanigans. Now, some of the world’s leading travel agencies place Pakistan’s north as the the globe’s current #1 travel destination, but you need to make your own mind up. But it isn’t recommended so highly without reason. Just depends on your willingness to be a traveller ahead of the tourist curve and so your own research  It is so well worth it. And, once flights are out of the way, it is so, so, SO, cheap to stay, eat and travel.

Come over to India. India had just one match drawn in last 5 years. Even that drawn match was a great effort by NZ to hang till 5th day (lost 9 wickets). Great teams play spin, swing or pace wickets fairly well. Poor teams complain. I think NZ stands up there at the top unlike poor Pommies. Also poor wickets like this will break the back of pace bowlers.

I'm not sure that Cummins is the Man either.

It's, unfortunately, a batsman's game

He appears to lack imagination. I just don't comprehend bowling captains. Their attention to the task of captaincy is comprised.

All good. Have pulled the pin on far away gigs. Will be local for next three years. Better rates anyway!

I've got no problem with it. For example I like East Asian and Northern European women and some others not so much to varying degrees. ------- I think celebrate the differences but l do get your point. We all want the same thing but go about it in different ways.

They have waited a very long time to play up in front of their fans. Good luck to them. My Pakistani friends here are very excited.

This is my issue. I’d rather be belted going for the wicket than bowl defensively. Just put it up n out ——- The speed needs to be slow enough to create the doubt. It goes hand in hand with placement outside off. Sometimes l feel Lyon doesn’t inhabit the spinner’s psyche.

Yeah...600km drive home today. Been working up north in the oven. Ten days straight of 42 plus. Wet over your way but bulls#!t hot over here. Home for 8 days before the next gig...mostly in the office. My daughter in Ipswich had 1500mm in 4 days from Thursday last week. Cut off in three directions except one....was working from home at the time due to covid so no biggie but scary. How did you go with the deluge?

Test cricket goes for 5 days mate. Plenty left to play. Perhaps T20 is suited toward your impatient personality. Today was an excellent day of cricket
