Australia has a 134 run lead with 10 wickets in the shed as they start Day 4 of the third Test after an incredible period with the ball against Pakistan. Join The Roar for live scores from 4pm AEDT.

Pakistan seemed to be cruising towards a lead on Day 3 when they were 3 for 248 but in the blink of an eye the match turned on its head.

The home side lost 7 for 20 in a stunning capitulation as Australia found their mojo with the ball with captain Pat Cummins (5-56) and Mitchell Starc (4-33) doing the damage.

The Aussies will now look to push on and set a daunting total for Pakistan to chase on the last day. After decisions around declarations in this series perhaps the best approach will be to score quickly and get bowled out in doing so.

However, it’s not the easiest pitch to score fast runs and the ball is starting to keep low.

Whatever the case, Australia will fancy their chances and will be thinking that Pakistan can’t keep producing last day heroics to bat out a Test.

After this Test looked like it was heading for another draw throughout most of yesterday we now have a clear contender to win this match.

It’s Australia’s for the taking but can they take or will Pakistan fight back once again?

irrelevant question as I did the math the night before and they ended up at tea very close to where I thought they would as I said they would need 5 to 10 overs after tea to place the match in safe place . given the previous days run rates they had moved it along at a higher run rate . let's not take away that some of the Pakistan bowlers bowled well to strangle some run flow. warner was also playing to stay in a bit after a string of flops he's not batting well .

it is a sign of agression it’s certainly not defensive Jeff as it left Australia partially exposed . three wickets in first session would probably put pay to Pakistan’s hopes followed by a few with new ball before tea . would you have declared when he did ? I wouldn’t have and said so night before it, felt we needed another 5 overs min which could have been 30 to 40 runs

It was a silly decision. The fact is the collapse happened within a small period where it was reversing. For every other period the pitch has been very benign. Declaring leaving them a target that needs to be chased at less than 3 an over and essentially relying on being able to reverse the ball seems foolhardy in the extreme.

I'm backin Cummins/Strac to bring this home, if they don't, then this will be one hell of a game either way. In hindsight, everybody is a genius.

Watch Naseem charge all day, ball tailing-in, reverse swing, inconsistent bounce, I think you might change your stance. Extremely challenging conditions to score/bat on, our batsmen played really well. They tried very hard to score quick, just wasn't there. My only concern was, we should've batted another 6/8 overs.

You're being too kind, Jeff. The state of the wickets was planned: https://cricketaddictor.com/australia-tour-of-pakistan-2022/pak-vs-aus-danish-kaneria-accuses-pcb-chief-ramiz-raja-of-betraying-pakistani-supporters-by-supporting-rawalpindis-wicket/

I think you are being overly harsh re the pitch preparation. It was well discussed before this series that at this late time of the season, we could expect dry and hard wickets. You will never get a green top in Karachi and Lahore, but you may get some better grass covering and seam movement, lead-in weather permitting, during winter. These last two wickets are being prepared in order to take turn late (Pakistan pitches don't take turn early like in India) - they've both clearly cracked heavily, but the spinners aren't getting much from them. I'm not sure how much drier the groundsmen could have prepared either wicket from the start in order to have them open up later. If you want to see better cricket wickets in Pakistan, play in November to January, during the cooler months, as all of the other touring Test teams have done and where results with low to middling totals have been on offer. And as their FC comp does. But what's the bet Australia would ever be so gracious enough to tour Pakistan during that time of year? Australia spent 6 days in January playing 3x ODIs in India a few years back - during the middle of India's cricket season - and many Australian fans screamed the roof off.

According to Davis, things didn't change much between the early '80's and 2015. His data is a little opaque - I haven't subscribed, need to do more research - but best I could gather was something around 24.5% circa 2015.

This is the first Test at Lahore in 12 years. Which averages are you relying on?

Australia had a 325 lead going in at tea. What do you think are the reasons Australia didn't post the lead you thought they would have had by tea?

correct U . bigger issue with averages at this ground that favor seamers should Boland or hazel have started with one seamer. one mistake I can see from Cummins he doesn't bowl labuschange enough who rips it on these last two pitches
