It’s do or die time for the Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat as they meet in the Big Bash League Knockout. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:15pm (AEDT).

The Thunder will ‘host’ tonight’s match-up at Manuka Oval after finishing the regular season in third, while the Heat have progressed here courtesy of their steady win over the Adelaide Strikers at home on Friday night.

Sydney’s top order looms as crucial. With Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales facing the new ball, they have one of the best opening partnerships in the entire Big Bash, and that duo are amply backed up by Callum Ferguson and Sam Billings behind them.

For the Heat, Chris Lynn is the main man with the bat. His side might have been able to get the job done after he failed against Adelaide, undone by a Michael Neser gem, but that was at home chasing a moderate score – and even then they looked wobbly at times. Against a strong attack featuring the likes of Daniel Sams, Adam Milne and Tanveer Sangha, Brisbane will need their skipper to go big with the willow.

The winner of tonight’s game gets a flight to Perth and a place in Thursday night’s Challenger against the Scorchers, with the winner of that fixture to progress to the final against the Sixers. Lose tonight, though, and it’s season over.

The Heat were very good in the run chase - particularly Heazlett (who was very slow early) and Peirson - who again proved a steady hand. But the Thunder handed it to them a bit with some pretty ordinary bowling. Too many half trackers that were easily dealt with. Could have also brought the field up and forced the Heat to get the runs rather than hand it to them. Just shows that when a team gets on a roll its hard to arrest the momentum. That's when the good bowlers come in and make something happen - unfortunately for the Thunder it didn't happen.

Yet again Brisbane showing the Stars, it's when you win that matters. All the talk about how poor the Heat early on, while Stars odds on! You still have to play the whole tournament to get to the final and then have a team. Surely someone in Melbourne understands that? Good on Brisbane and Boof, played the game in front of them.

Everyone knows that the fist bump is covid safe whereas touching palms is deadly. I just give thanks for these brilliant and evidence derived measures

Then touching knuckles at the end of the game but hugging after each wicket. At least the pandemic has slowed the touching another bloke’s bottom as a form of celebration.

It's like the Thunder clocked off after 10 overs and the Chunder of early BBL days replaced them.

Too bad Pierson hasn’t been selected in either squads for Australia.

I have to admit that I was thinking some unkind thoughts about Heazlett when he had a strike rate of 68-ish but after Marnus ran himself out controversially, Heazlett went into top gear and won it for them (with a nice cameo from Peirson). Onwards and upwards Heat!!

I think Heazlett deserved his opportunity. I think Bazley in for Gregory might improve them in all departments also?

Well done Sammy and the Heat boys tonight. Been playing like chumps for a majority of the season but produced the good of late. Less reckless slogging to Cow and more hitting to gaps and running hard.

Long conversation after every ball. Then Milne bowls absolute dreck full toss outside off that gets carted. Who’d be a captain?

It's so reassuring to see the players wearing two hats to save the umpire from holding the bowlers hat. I just think that it was an incredible intervention in the face of the pandemic and I can't help but think of all the lives it has saved
