I'm a great fan of Uzzi but he should not field in slips or gully. Took a good outfield catch. This is where he should be. What happened to Lyon? He is our gully specialist.
Gully is very different to 3rd slip as you are often trying to reel in an offensive shot which by nature travels at a higher pace Vs 3rd slip which is generally a defensive snick.
Either Khawaja or Paine (or both?) are at fault for him being too close...
Might be Paine' error as he also put Travis Head at short leg early on, only to see him nutmegged with poor technique. Bancroft would have been a strong chance of taking that catch or at least making a fist of it given what he did a little later...
I think his technique was made to look ordinary because I think he barely sighted the ball and had so little time to get in position. It also didn't help he's not exactly a natural in that position.
Uzzie's technique was ordinary - that's the sort that you can clutch to your chest or ensure it drops into the breadbasket. Or like Ponting, drop the legs to get your head behind it and take it with fingers pointing upward.
An article on the CA website pointed out the slips fielders were standing so close to the pitch, because it was so slow, that Bancroft(?) at third slip had a helmet on. I'm not sure this catch was as easy as it may have first seemed.

I also thought I was Garry McIntosh.

Are you sure you're not Ashley Mallett?

To be a truly great gully you have to be an off-spinner

I noticed in the responses last night that a few people thought that...

Might have been a bit close and it went quickly, but you need to take these.

Too close. Poor old Siddle unlucky as Timmy Paine also put one down.
