This looked… questionable.

Considering the outsourcing policy of the motherland over the last century or so it's a fair chance they are not English.

Hard to believe Englishmen complain at all...

I'm Australian, so a fail from you there. See what im doing? Excercising some critical non-biased thought and no one on this site can handle it. You're a bigger joke than the Englishmen that complain on The Guardian.

I didn't think Atherton and Trescothick were English. I thought this because they have both been found to be cheaters. And as we all know the English don't cheat.

You had to dig deep for that one, Rowdy.

Apart from living with himself knowing that the ball touched the ground first. What sort of cricketer doesn’t know if he’s taken the ball clean or not. And, no, I would’ve called it the same if it had happened to an Aussie. It took me a long time to warm to Steve Waugh because early in his test career he claimed a catch that wasn’t.

But it didn't. All we've heard is the condescending moral crap from ivory towers about how Australians are cheats. Well mate now your captain is doing the same thing and hasn't even got he backbone to own his behaviour. Just keep denying it and it will go away. Perhaps just sweep it under the carpet with Ather's dirt or Trescothick's mentos....

Controversial catches could be easily fixed. Unless the video provides absolute proof without any doubt whatsoever. Plus it’s clearly without doubt, taken by hands before the playing surface. Then and only then the batsman given out. The benefit of any doubt goes to the batsman. So in this case Root’s attempt to catch fell below the required criteria to be deemed a catch. Sooo Easy! Plus fair for all.

The lack of critical thinking and insane amounts of parochialism on this site is hilarious. The fact that if this happened when an Australian claimed the catch you would all be on here giving the English batsman crap for whinging and not walking. So how about you take the fielder, the English captain might I add, on his word and stop being massive hypocrites and crybabies?

Joe had some help from Joel the Cameraman.

It used to be an issue when the host Boards appointed the umpires for home Tests. The host Board was responsible for umpire accreditation and they paid their salary (and the host Board wanted home wins, so pretty obvious how that would play out re the employee’s perceptions of employer objectives). But they all work for the ICC now. I’d have no issue with Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth officiating this Test, and I doubt the Australian team would other.

completely agree Jeff. It might have been reasonable when it first came about a few years ago, but as you say, guys who want to favour one team or another will be quickly found out.

Are there any Australian cricket fans who wouldn't rather have Richard Kettleborough umpiring than anyone we have had so far this series?

Or again. Perhaps Root would need to "sub in" his VC Stokes though.

Play the best umpires and let the technology take the "bias" out of the decision making if there are shockers/howlers. TBH, if any umpire wants to sustain a career on the Elite Panel, they're not going to be aiming to make biased calls with every decision captured on camera and scrutinised relentlessly.
