I just find it funny how his career was on the chopping block after the 2015 WC then England switched to a slogging style with ultra flat roads then he somehow resurrects his form and starts plundering runs for fun at home. He has always been an extremely patchy batsman but with the new wickets used in England he looks a lot better than he actually is.
A tad ill informed - In ODI and T20 its the strike rate that counts. Quick scoring takes the game away from the other team. Eoin Morgan average across all England ODIs is 131.54. This is what the England team try to do down the whole order. Max the return of runs per ball. This is the ethos that Eoin Morgan has brought as captain to England. As he now has a team that plays his way, his form has been fantastic.
His batting average for the last year to date is 50.14. Based on 12 games at home (India, Pak, Aus, SA, Bang & Afghan) and 9 away (WI, Sri Lanka & Ireland). Home Avg 50.92, Away Avg 50.11.
George as of right now I would say Steve Smith is a good one day player, not a great one. He needs to improve his away stats however he has played half the games of Morgan so I think he'll improve.
Just a really uninformed comment. As Ronan pointed to, he typically plays exactly the role the innings needs. As with this one, at first drop and with a pedestrian rate, many captains would have sent Jos Butler in. He didn't, and carried the whole innings. Typical of the man and the captain.
Boundaries might not be short but the bats are ridiculously powerful. Records are being rewritten by bat technology. Oh how tough it is to be a bowler in this era.
Morgan has become such a complete ODI batsman, he can go ballistic like this but he can also build an innings - there are very, very few batsmen in the world with that kind of versatility.
A good Dublin lad!

And dropped on 28 as well... that would have made a lesser batsman much more hesitant,

Would you say the same about Steve Smith?

He's a very good batsman at home, mediocre away from it. Nothing more than a bully on flat tracks. Averaging only 35 away and 47 at home.

Getting over the 100 mark adds a bit more zing to the record doesn’t it.

Not just a record for ODIs but for all three formats of international cricket. More impressive for the fact the boundaries were not short.
