Justin Langer remains cryptic about Matt Wade coming into the team

By The Roar / Editor

Australian coach Justin Langer knows his final 11 for the semi-final against England but he won’t be revealing it before the toss. He did however admit that Peter Handscomb will definitely play and Marcus Stoinis is fit.

I wonder if Stoinis seems like an all-rounder to Langer?

Wade doesn't do enough ohhhmmms and has an opinion or two which precludes him from the inner circle of those who maintain motorcycles. Despite some of them not being able to kickstart a two-stroke.

In my proposed/expected changes it was a vandemonian, a sandgroper and a bush ranger in for a bush ranger, a tweed heads fence sitter and a sandgroper. Bringing the total number of sandgropers in the team to 2 Globalists: 5 Gropers: 2 Devils: 1 Bush rangers: 2 Patricians : 1

Even that runout last game, he seemed slow to get off the blocks, and then didn’t dive at the end when he could have. Just. Too. Laconic?

Whether it's something for public consumption is another matter.

Langer (sorry, 'super coach' i saw himn called the other day) is unprofessional when it comes to his blind loyalty to WA players.

It seems so obvious to just put Marsh in if you want that medium pacer in the side. Langer was loath to play Wade when he was carving it up during the summer. All the innuendo was that he was bad for team chemistry. I can't understand why you'd suddenly jettison him into the squad for the biggest match in 4 years. We lost 2 matches all campaign, why would you create change for the sake of it?

Maxi has been a better batsman in the World Cup than Stoinis and has twice the strike rate. 34 average with 134 strike rate this year. One of the most valuable ODI batsman in the world this year. Run a ball from a part time spinner is pretty good. I'll take that all day in the middle overs. Stoinis is half fit anyway. It just boggles the mind that Langer suddenly gets the urge to play Wade when he has had ample opportunity and justification to play him since January. I've been crying out for him to get a run since he was turning in on in domestic cricket.

Maxwell has hardly contributed this tournament with either bat or ball. He's averaging 22.14 with the bat, but his last 3 innings have been 33 deliveries for 25 runs. Throw in his none for 295 at 6.02 and he's done virtually nothing with the ball. I have no issue with Maxwell playing because he MIGHT just do something incredible, but Langer has every right to question his place in the side, because of these numbers, without being accused of trying to shaft him.

Stoinis’ effort in general leaves a lot to be desired. I won’t say lazy but he certainly could do better

Wade is an opener in ODIs. He’s not going to get that chance in the Australian side. Handscomb has to come back into the side for his acceleration in the middle order. Marsh to replace Stoinis as the seaming all rounder

Langer has been waiting to stick it to Maxi. This is absurd if he's serious about dropping Maxi. It's a disgrace how Maxwell has been treated. I think Maxi should just give up playing for Australia and become a T20 mercenary if he gets dropped. He's averaged 34 with a strike rate of 134 this year generally coming in late in an innings. If you ask England who they are more scared of -- Maxwell, Stoinis, Wade -- no question they are most scared of Maxwell. He can find an extra 20-30 runs out of nothing late in the innings.

Stoinis in the XI is a huge huge mistake. Stoinis is however very good at being a showpony and looking bemused when he is dismissed. XI should be: Warner Finch Smith Handscomb Carey Wade Maxwell (surely he is better than Stoinis) Cummins Starc Behrendorff Lyon Provides a deep batting lineup.
