In fairness he was a bloody good captain and it's hard to disagree with what he said.

He's certainly no Allan Border, when England need him to be an Allan Border.

No obvious candidates ..I thought Root copped it unfairly specifically being criticized for some selections or non selections and then choosing to bat.. These are definitely not arbitrary calls by the captain and would be made at team level beforehand .....If however I were an England fan I would wonder whether the pressures of Captaincy which are now massively multiplied thanks to social media , has a negative influence on his batting which is still his primary role in the team.

Rory would need to have a 400 or 500 run series to be in the running I'd have thought Arnab. Assuming England lose the series, the knives will be out, so first he has to keep his place in the side, hence the runs, THEN maybe he can be a candidate for captaincy when Root's leadership is called into question.

Worst time for him but Rory Burns wouldn’t be a bad shout for skipper. Has done well for Surrey as skipper. Maybe the responsibility can make him become into a more consistent batter.

He's probably right, but who takes charge of the team? They're worse off for captaincy choices than we were a month ago
