Didn't Australia do this with Nevill at the 2016 T20 World Cup? He batted at like 9 or 10? From memory he actually did what was required when he was called upon to bat and he kept okay.
I still wonder if Nevill would have come good if we'd given him a bit more time.
Someone like Peter Handscomb would be a better option IMO. A true batsman who can keep wicket, a la Devon Conway. That or go for a genuine keeper who bats at 9 or 10!
Just to be pedantic, but:
I doubt guys like Buttler, Pant or Conway would have done any better
I agree, and you know what they all have in common? None of them are good 'keepers... all of them are selected for their batting.
That drop by Wade is not the worst drop of all time, but it was catchable and I'm confident a real 'keeper would have caught it. Considering Wade's batting is not needed, we may as well have selected a real wicketkeeper. This is in contrast to Buttler, Pant and Conway, all of whom contribute with the bat.
all good Jeff. He's having a lovely time writing some pretty "out there" comments and I'm having a fine time trying to come up with responses.
He told me the other day he can see the future!!
I’m no Wade fan, but hate to see a player get hammered when his chances of taking that were slim. I doubt guys like Buttler, Pant or Conway would have done any better.
Completely agree about keepers dropping the easy ones though.
As much as I dislike Wade, I have to agree with you.
I remember Carey dropping an easier one in India a few years back (I think it was an ODI). Every keeper drops catches - it's the easy ones that bug me.
It's a bit like umpire bashing, easy for the couch potatoes to see the correct decision when you are given several replays and not having 11 players and 50,000 fans screaming at you.
No he won't. Carey was picked ahead of Wade for the SA test squad, so he would almost certainly come straight in. If not him, then Inglis.
Not sure it's Stoinis' fault that Bangladesh got rolled for 73 and he wasn't required. It isn't often a game goes for less than 22 overs total.
That was a much tougher chance than it seemed. It was a faster delivery, wide of the stumps & moving wider and that was a healthy edge. I'd reckon top class keepers would catch that maybe 5 or 6 times out of 10 and Wade's not a top class keeper, nor is expected to be.
"Wade will be the keeper in 1st Test if Paine is still injured." Don't think so, Frank.
And you're right, there are at least 2 guys better than Wade, shirley.

We are in trouble if he drops Root like this!
There has got to be someone better surely!
Good to see Stoinis contribute heavily to the game.....again. Team is carrying him big time.

Dropped because Wade was gonna make runs. We should have gone back to Nevill in late 2017. But he didn’t wear a forest green cap

To be honest, he's probably the best keeper in Australia. Paine was in his day but I think his keeping has deteriorated since he became captain.

That's sounds right about Nevill. Still keeping really well for NSW

In agreement here. Not a Wade fan and think he's a pretty rubbish keeper, but that was a tough chance.

I doubt he's even in consideration to play, let alone keep wicket.

There's no chance they'll put Wade in as the Test 'keeper.

Cost me the greatest prediction on the Roar since ably tipping Rohan to jag 5 against the Tigers : (
