Paine is full of inane drivel. He knowingly hit the ball and squealed last test when given out. Check out the up close reactions at the time. Just another case of poor sportsmanship. Unfortunately a weak leader but the best we have at present.
Considering the dissent shown by many touring players this series that has been given a gold pass it would be highly hypocritical of the ICC to start sanctioning players now.
Assuming every player should be banned for showing decent towards an umpire this series one side would surely run out of players and the series would need to be canned early.
That's not the point though. Paine was not happy about what he saw was a lack of consistency and wanted to make his feeling known to the wrong person at the wrong time. Whether there was an edge in a previous decision was something left foe an off field discussion
No and shouldn’t be much more than a formal reprimand. And We will have to disagree on the dissent thingy. Looked like it to me at least. .. I’m also just saying that Tim should for the rest of the match not query any further calls in any way that may be seen as dissent.. That’s when things may become more serious.. At the last U19 World Cup a South African batsman given out caught behind.. Kept looking at the ump and rubbing his shoulder. Got a 1 match ban. It’s sensitive territory.
It's not dissent at all IMO. Nor is it intimidation. He merely asked, albeit using the wrong language, why this decision didn't match up with other decisions and as I said above, he was asking the wrong guy at the wrong time in the wrong place.
As for escalating to higher levels, I don't think it'll be any more than a fine for swearing.
It’s a clear level 1 offense Paul.. Article 1.3 ICC code of conduct.. Showing dissent to an umpires decision.. That’s gonna be either an official reprimand and or a 50% match fee penalty.. Has to be really….. If the match referee determines any pattern of dissent by Paine in the match he may upgrade It to a level 3 offense.. Ie intimidation of the ump. Then we In match banning territory.. That’s 2 to 4 matches.. So Tim may wanna reign it in a bit.
In fairness though, the point Paine made so "forcefully" was right, but he made it to the wrong person. He should have got together with his Managers after play and had a chat with the match officials together, not blow up at a bloke who can't really do a lot about the issue

Their is no consistency when you're in a series against a team that owns the ICC. The sooner teams understand this the better they will be.

Paine wasn't right, it was clear there wasnt a spike while the Tim Paine one had a spike.

They were clutching at straws claiming there was a spike on that replay. Also complained about a caught behind against Pant without reason.
