The Brisbane Broncos will be looking for a big win to cement their spot in the top eight when they take on the Newcastle Knights at Suncorp Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:35pm AEST.

With just 4 rounds remaining, the Broncos get a chance to make their finals spot just that little bit safer tonight. With a tough run home though, these two points may prove critical at the end of the season.

The Broncos have perhaps overachieved this year and, after consecutive losses, there are some questions being raised as to whether they are fading late. They did seem a class behind the Roosters, who breezed to a 34-16 win last start.

A lot of the Broncos’ success is built around Adam Reynolds, and opposition teams have realised this. Reynolds has looked a bit bruised and broken in recent games. However, if the Broncos forwards can create a platform, Reynolds can still weave his magic.

A couple of late withdrawals for the Broncos, with Brenko Lee and Keenan Palasia both out. Delouise Hoeter is in for Lee and Ryan James in for Palasia. Te Maire Martin returns from injury at fullback. Billy Walters has been named to start at hooker, with Jake Turpin moving to the bench.

A win can solve all types of problems at a footy club, and it must have seemed like that last weekend for Newcastle. It wasn’t pretty, but the 14-10 win over the Tigers was courageous, with a fair bit of emotion after the siren. It has been a long season for the Knights.

It’s perhaps unfair to point the finger at anyone in particular, but the guidance of Mitchell Pearce has been missed this year. It is likely in the halves where Newcastle will be looking to bolster their squad for 2023. Kalyn Ponga’s concussion issues are also a concern.

David Klemmer has been a late withdrawal, with Jacob Saifiti starting and Sauaso Sue getting a spot on the bench. Adam Clune returns in the 7 jersey. Mitch Barnett is out with injury and is replaced by Mat Croker. Edrick Lee is in the reserves and may get a late call-up.

Prediction

With all the emotion after last week’s win, the Knights may have a letdown this weekend.

There is too much on the line for the Broncos here. They simply need to win and they will.

Broncos by 20.

Its got nothing to do with my mate and great Bunnie GB  who btw is probably taking a break when he's got to cop continual blah blah blahsss like you are dishing out, with the likes of "Geez that green & red jumper looks funny on Reynolds. Doesn’t look right at all"... as mate, last night was not a convincing 2 pointer if we want to compare apples with apples even with the Bunnies (don't ever forget that!) wonder boy Reno  lets see if Reno will ever be a part of GF winning side at the Bronx???

Boy, you wouldn't be 20yo. You've got the intellect of a 12yo sourcing knowledge from U-tube. I have no doubt you import girlfriends but they would have to be blown up first. I don't hate you, I feel sorry for you.

Good for you Lambo, but while your there stuffing cash in the garter of some tart that's going home to bang her boyfriend, I'm at home snuggled up with my beautiful imported wife, 20 years my junior. You'd hate me even more if you knew how good my life is . Baaaaa Baaaaa

Actually, you need a lot of speed and momentum to do that. With 96 odd% of the forward passes that are claimed to be momentum they are not. The best example is one from Charlies Stains in his first game, it’s the textbook example of a ball passed back but moved forward . But he is quick and most guys are running sideways or not at his speed. I’ve seen another example from the Fox, so not many and only with guys at speed. Also ‘backwards motion’ is misleading. I can pass in a backwards motion yet send the ball forward, it depends when in the passing arc that you release the ball. Telltale signs apart from the shape of the passing arc and release point are the distance between the passer and receiver and their position with each other. two guys pretty much in line with each other at around 3m or more apart, unless they are standing still or at express pace that pass will be forward. The core issue is that for some reason – be it their penchant for having refs as ‘entertainment managers’ or just simply being incompetent, the NRL/Bodgy Bunker are bizarrely happy to deny tries for some guy (not affecting defence) simply standing in a wrong spot or someone losing control of a ball by mm yet happy to let 1-2+m forward passes go when tries are scored. And the ‘head in the sand’ “Oh we don’t use the tech for forward passes” is BS when they use it for knock -on etc. You didn’t need GPS tech to see that the pass to Oates last night was a metre+ forward, there is the freakin line on the ground. Passer was before the line, passes in a forward arc, Oates was in-line when the pass was made and catches the ball almost a meter past the line.. It’s not hard. Also – separate observation – this happened last week against the Roosters and there was a media outcry that the chooks (even though they won) were robbed by a blind bunker. No such outrage when it happened against Knights yet it contributed heavily to a change in the momentum and outcome of the game and ruination of the spectacle.

But players wear gps trackers and they can calculate the trajectory of the ball relative to the player. Either way the NFL has solved this problem years ago. As we are always copying advancements in sport from the USA why not this? Why the delay? Where is the $1.2 billion going anyway? Geoff Toovey was right. "There should be an investigation!"

If you follow the absolute letter you could find something in every single play.

It’s not as simple as a gps tracker. If I’m running forwards and pass in a backwards motion the ball will still travel forwards.

I attend games mate and its another 2 points. Although I'll give you some credit, you didn't disappear for 6 months while Souths struggled. Your mate here only shows up in the good times. At least you're staunch.

Funny, I haven't heard anything from you for months. Nothing about origin either. Now Souths are starting to win guess who shows up! Fair weather fan.

If we had kept Reyno we would’ve probably lost 2-3 other great, essential players. Especially how contracts are treated these days. Why do people not understand this?
