The Canberra Raiders and Ricky Stuart face a tough task to turn their season around when they host the Melbourne Storm at GIO Stadium. Follow this Saturday night NRL match right here on The Roar with live scores from 7:35pm (AEST).

Not even the loss of star fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen to concussion on his return from a shoulder injury could stop the Storm from recording yet another win in Magic Round. After a tight first half, the reigning premiers blitzed the 12-man Dragons in the second half to run away with a 44-18 win – their seventh on the trot.

Remarkably, they’ve cracked 40 points in six of those matches, including the last four, with second-half blowouts common. Against the Raiders, who are in the midst of a worrying trend of fading badly after half time, such a penchant could see Josh Addo-Carr add to his remarkable run of tries.

The Raiders badly needed a win last week to break a run of five straight losses, but a 20-18 triumph over the lowly Bulldogs was about as uninspiring as it gets.

Trailing midway through the second half and a man down thanks to Josh Papalii’s sending-off, tries to Curtis Scott and Sebastian Kris saw them avoid a humiliating defeat, but they’ll need to be significantly better to so much as challenge the Storm.

They lose Papalii, plus Jack Wighton and Josh Hodgson, to suspension in a bitter blow for the Green Machine, with veteran Sam Williams to start as the new five-eighth. The Storm have fewer issues, with Brandon Smith a welcome return from his own suspension to slot straight back in at dummy-half.

Geoff, Curtis Scott is an average player at best. Hudson Young is the same. My point is, yes they can fill the spots in the team, but is there anyone better? In the case of Scott if Mathew Timoko is given a chance, the difference will be there for everyone to see, even inept people like Ricky Stuart . If Timoko doesn't have more impact in centre position than Scott I'll walk to Canberra on my crutches. Timoko, when I've seen him play is a hard runner of the ball & is a very good defender. Nothing else is working so why not give the poor bastard a run. It was heartbreaking to see Timoko as the 18th man. Also remember that the Storm team that flogged them was their, reserve, reserve team. There was only Brandon Smith playing out of their spine. I'm pleading to all Raiders fans to abandon attendance at matches until some soul returns to this Raiders squad. I've always said that I can accept defeat, if the team has a red hot go. But when they're listless & uninterested in the game, we should all follow suit. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be a Storm fan, you win at least 80% of your games during the year, at least make the preliminary final & no matter who is playing in your team, you know that they are going to do a good job & not let themselves, their team, their coach or fans down. After so many losses would Bellamy have stuck with his 'favourite' players? Not a chance.

Nothing more to be said except that bunnies have let in 106 points against Storm and Panthers while scoring 12... rabble

At this point, particularly after what just happened to the Bunnies, Parramatta is the only team capable of beating either of them to the GF.

Bit tough on Scott - I thought he was one of the Raiders best in another ordinary team performance. But agree wholeheartedly with the rest you have said. Ricky is clueless. It feels like a re-run of 2017 and 2018 except possibly worse. Since 2015 they have had three great seasons and three frustratingly lame ordinary seasons. How can a team and a coach be so inconsistent? You would never see this from a Bellamy or Robinson coached team. Supporters could see issues with Hodgson and Jarod Croker earlier in the season but it looks to have been handled really badly. Why did Hodgson give up the captaincy? All he had to do was be more direct with his service on the field. But it looks like he spat the dummy. We badly need and miss his leadership. Surely they could have worked something out. He is still a good player. Jarod Croker looks as though he may have some pretty serious physical issues and may be being eased out of the team but Hodgson still has a lot to offer. Something smells down there. I'm not sure that Ricky has the dressing room. And agree Raiders fans shouldn't have to sit in the cold and put up with that sort of lame lacklustre performance. I'll be honest - I saw three meek performances in a row at home and couldn't face another one while sitting in 3 to 4 degrees. I was amazed they got a crowd of 14,000 last night. They didn't deserve to have to watch that sort of performance. All the best with the recovery Taree. Might be time for us to investigate other pursuits as I fear the rest of the season might unravel.

Between injuries and random chance I still give the Eels a shot

We do still have 14 rounds to go and the Origin series, but something very dramatic will have to happen to the current meta of the season for it not to be a Melbourne v Penrith GF.

Got home last night from hip replacement surgery in Sydney. The pain I felt watching that game was greater than anything my hip could offer up. At the end I couldn't believe that there were still Raiders fans at the stadium. The Raiders should offer refunds to everyone who showed up. That was the most pathetic thing I've seen in the NRL. I'm sick to death of Ricky Stuart, pack him off & let someone else have a go. He won't admit when he's wrong, every NRL, State or Australian team that he has coached has ended in turmoil. They were getting flogged, the new bloke on debut was given the last 10 minutes. After the first 10 minutes of the second half it was nosediving to failure, why wouldn't you have given him the last 30 minutes? Tell me why the Raiders defence is so sterile, there is absolutely no aggression at all. It appears that no one wants to be there & they obviously aren't playing for the coach. If they don't put Tomiko into the centres & get rid of Curtis Scott I'm not going to waste my emotional energy on supporting an under 10's side playing against grown men. Or should that be a 10 year old coaching grown men.

Ricky didn't even have excuses last night - he had nothing to say - no refs to blame - didn't even offer bad luck - both teams were missing huge chunks of their squads so the result should have been a lot closer - without CNK the team appears to have lost heart. The squad always looked top heavy with forwards and a bit thin in the backs but I have hope that the young blokes like Valemei and Kris will develop. I also think Guler and Horsborough look underdone after the pre-season recovering from season ending injuries in 2020. The team also lacks leadership - Jarod Croker appears to have a long-term injury so Hodgson should have been the man to lead them around - but he appears to have spat the dummy and given up the captaincy and could be moving on at the end of the season. Very worrying signs for supporters.

I am sure that just like Brisbane and Roosters, Melbourne will one day be rabble. But it is not this year. Huge gap in talent between top 3 and everyone else

So your call is Bunnies to threaten top 3? Fair enough. Lost to Melbourne but plenty of matches to come. Let the games begin

I backed the Storm to win this year's Comp last November . I thought it was a two team comp before a ball was even bowled. I haven't changed my mind. So yeah let's have the GF next week. Then I can go on another, 7 day Iive aboard fishing charter with my winnings. But if you want to call all the other teams a rabble don't be surprised if some people respond with their own perjoratives about Melbourne. There is a long list to chose from.

I agree...offering excuses not remedies...I'm afraid that Ricky has lost the dressing room. The backs have been the most disappointing this year, forwards not much better. The only excuse I would give is I would love to know how many canberra 6 restarts happen inside of their 40m line because they seem to get a lot. Which is the worse part of the rule, it should be a penalty kick because you get no advantage of one or two extra tackles

How can a team that made the GF in 2019 and a prelim in 2020 be this bad in 2021? Might be Ricky that is the problem – well at least part of the problem. He has some explaining to do. And pathetic performances like that press conference isn’t going to cut it. Raiders supporters have had a gut full. If they keep dishing up this rubbish they will be lucky to be playing in front of 5,000 in a few weeks time.

I think George would likely be on minimum salary already as he didn't have a contract before being picked p so they'll still need to pay another player to fill his position in the squad. Agree on trying Hynes at center though as he has all the skills.

Bunnies have and will smack Parra. Their B team belted my Storm which was hardly a surprise. Have had close games vs Panthers of late. You’ve offered no real reason why they shouldn’t be considered. Nothing more to be said.

The Raiders are barely a bottom 4 side. Only reason we aren't getting the spoon is that we scraped home last week, and I don't see the Dogs winning three more games this season.

It is what it is, results from the first 11 weeks (incomplete at time of writing) back it up. Sides like Roosters losing to Broncos – with all respect to Brisbane, that does not look like a match the big 3 drop. Bunnies are top 4 and got humiliated by Melbourne and now are meeting Penrith. But if you disagree, I honestly would love to hear which side you think can challenge the big 3 for this year’s premiership
