Round 21 wraps up with the Gold Coast Titans desperately trying to retain their place in the top eight against fellow Queenslanders the North Queensland Cowboys. Tune into events from the glitter strip with live scores on The Roar from 4:05pm (AEST).
Valentine Holmes is a welcome return for the Cowboys, who suffered an embarrassing loss to the lowly Broncos in last week’s derby. Mathematically, they’re still in the finals hunt, but spiritually, Todd Payten’s team seem all but shot now.
Kane Bradley passes Holmes on the way out with a fractured hand that has all but ended his season, while Jason Taumalolo looks like shifting from lock to the second-row in an interesting tactical manoeuvre.
The Titans haven’t had it all their own way this year, but in the battle for those last few spots in the eight, they’re currently the best place. Sitting seventh courtesy of a differential-boosting win over the Bulldogs in Round 20, Justin Holbrook’s outfit simply must fill there boots here ahead of a nightmare run home.
Up next for the Titans is the Rabbitohs and the Storm, which could see them drastically fall behind in the race for the eight, especially if they go under today.
Kick-off: 4:05pm (AEST)
Venue: Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast
TV: Channel Nine, Fox League
Online: Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, Foxtel GO

Question for the stats nerds, apart from JT, how many times has a cowboys forward ran for 100 plus metres.

Anastasia has probably requested a Qld team to support. Cummins effort today confirmed, almost making it illegal for Cowboys to be in possession at times. Not much doubt there’ll be hardly a Storm player in sight when they play in a couple of weeks. That’ll just about seal it for them.

Good luck Titans I hope you can kick on and go deep into the finals. Cowboys are disinterested rubbish with that performance. Had a tough year with injuries but there is zero excuse for some of the incompetence and execution. They have talent but are short of winners. Maybe it’s an age thing for many but Feldt, Taumalolo, Holmes, Burr and even Hess have a lot of football smarts to learn.

You need to bring them through in a way for them to be ready to go when they get a game. All QLD teams are hopeless at it unless you count the Storm

Titans were the better side, congratulations. Commiserations, Jimmmy & all Cowboys - they played out the full game & defence much improved. Just too many errors.

My wife would like to know and so do I. Do they play the crowd noise over the stadium speakers or is it added to broadcast?

A lot. But then what would a 20 year Lewis or Johns be worth?

Agree on the long term contracts, dumb. But I don't like recruiting esp NSWers. Keeping quality NQ boys should be the priority.

How much would a 22 year old Bowen be worth these days?
