Round 25 of the NRL premiership continues with the New Zealand Warriors hosting the Manly Sea Eagles at Daniel Anderson Stadium in Auckland. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6:00pm (AEST).
The Warriors come into tonight’s game in third position, with five straight wins under the collective belt, with excellent fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad back from a head knock, and with the team riding a wave of excitement and goodwill on both sides of the Tasman Sea.
And yet, a nagging doubt remains. To an extent, that’s natural given the Warriors haven’t been genuine premiership contenders in well over a decade. But it’s also born of some unconvincing recent performances, with the Warriors labouring to put away the 12-man Titans and the last-placed Tigers in the past fortnight.
Is winning despite decidedly patchy form a virtue, or are the wins papering over some growing cracks?
Manly will surely give us a clearer indication of the Warriors’ true form tonight than the hapless Tigers managed, with the Sea Eagles having troubled league-leading Penrith last weekend and still clinging to a very faint hope of playing finals.
In team news, the Warriors are back at full strength with the return of Nicoll-Klokstad, but dummy-half Wayde Egan is in some doubt after a throat injury forced him off early in last weekend’s win over the Tigers.
The Sea Eagles will be without Brad Parker and Ben Trbojevic, with Morgan Harper and Kelma Tuilagi taking their places.
In stadium news, the Warriors are supporting ongoing fundraising efforts on behalf of their former coach Daniel Anderson by, among other things, renaming Go Media Stadium as the Daniel Anderson Stadium for tonight’s game.
On the recent form of both teams, a tight, tense affair, heavily influenced by veteran halves Shaun Johnson and Daly Cherry-Evans seems most likely. The Warriors should just scrape home by virtue of Johnson’s boot, one way or another. Warriors by 2

Either he doesn't know the rules, or more likely, he jumped in the air to avoid being tackled. The referee made the right decision. The Manly player tried to jump over the tackler, but he didn't jump high enough and was caught by the leg. If a player tries to avoid being tackled by jumping into the air, then they have to accept the consequences of being caught. If the defender had been penalised we would see dangerous jumping become an attacking tactic. Seibold and Cherry-Evans were complaining about it and said they would take it up with Annesley but they haven't got a leg to stand on. Seibold will have to tell his players not to jump tackles in future.

Thanks for the updates, David. Appreciate your effort. That was tense. Thanks to the Warriors and Manly for a hard fought game. Hard luck, Manly. It’s good to see the Warriors keeping their composure and winning tight games.

Television Match Official. I was hoping it was Trainee Match Official. That would explain a few things.

What is it??
Panthers

True… Was that Penrith’s best side, at home, more penalties, 6-1 six agains , concede over 20 points etc…? Still, I said the other teams would have watched the game with interest. I didn’t mention Penrith at all. Every team can lose, but Penrith are unlikely to be going to NZ to play.

So, when someone is running in to tackle you, you can jump into the air and avoid being tackled. The referee made the right call.

No, I wouldn't, because the cricket way of doing things doesn't apply here. Two different sports, two different hat-tricks. Most people will call it a triple before they call it a treble, but only because we're a simple bunch. Just to be different, I might call six tries a double hat-trick, because thats two lots of three, but only in a tongue in cheek way...

Take your teeth out, have your meds, deep breaths and take your nap. Hopefully someone bottle feds you at midnight. Tomorrow it will all be cool. ‘Arh what game?’ You’ll think, ‘why was I so annoying?’ :crying: Go the Warriors!!

Brain-dead rugby union supporter - not worth worrying about. Thanks for the Our Game recommendation by the way - loving it.

But you're saying you would allow a player to jump into the air to avoid being tackled. The ref made the correct ruling.

Three tries is a treble. Would you call four tries a double hat trick? Would you call five tries a triple hat trick?

Thanks mate, it’s nice to be back there for once. You guys have a good team, unlucky in a few games and injuries crueled you. You’ll be back better next year, consistently a top team.
