The Sydney Roosters will be looking to make a statement when they travel to Townsville to take on the North Queensland Cowboys. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:50pm (AEST).
The Roosters are in a position they haven’t been in for quite some time: coming off a loss. Having won five straight after the break, Trent Robinson’s men were dealt their first defeat since March last week, albeit in a thrilling, match of the season contender against the Storm.
The Cowboys have no such problems with being unfamiliar with their situation – their issue is how frequently the losses have come this season. Last week’s 38-point hammering at the hands of the Eels, their fifth defeat of the year, has only increased pressure on the beleaguered side.
Both sides have injury concerns for this one. Justin O’Neill joins the likes of Michael Morgan and Jordan McLean on a long North Queensland casualty list, and coach Paul Green has made some tactical changes, too, moving Valentine Holmes to the wing and bringing Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow back to fullback.
The Roosters, already reeling from the season-ending ACL injuries to Victor Radley and Sam Verrills, lost Daniel Tupou to a long-term ankle injury last week, while Boyd Cordner misses out tonight with a head knock. Ryan Hall and Mitchell Aubusson replace the duo.
Kick-off: 7:50pm (AEST)
Venue: Queensland Country Bank Stadium
TV: Fox Sports, Nine

How good is this Roosters team? Back to Back Premierships and WCC, plus with all the injuries accumulating this club can still score 8 tries.

So when is Paul Green getting sacked?

Some ex Storm players are having a battle this season. Drinkwater, Croft and Scott are really plodding along. Harry Grant isn't but they haven't let him go either. The Cows on paper have plenty going for them , particularly when all players are on deck. Plenty of rep players compared to a team like the Eels but they look like amateurs compared to the Chooks. One thing I'll give Robinson lots of credit for is the level of basic skills his players have. The passing is much sharper than most other teams and I'm sure it's not by accident. Pass selection is top rate as well. I could see the Chooks try unfold early when three Cows chased really hard to nullify a kick but left the ruck area unattended. That sort of defence is a dream come true for good play makers. Committed but unwise.

from the 31st minute to the 64th minute the Roosters notched up 42 unanswered points.

What a mighty team this Sydney Rooster back to back World Club Champions are. Missing Morris, Tupou, Liu, Radley, Verrills, Cordner on top of through the game Friend and Werea- Hargreaves. Then after the Cowboys score the opening points the Roosters retaliate with 42 points straight in a 34 minute window, then close up shop. This team is the greatest in NRL History.

Feldt was woeful last week also.

Actually, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might have been. The Cowboys were doing really well after the the first half hour. At least it wasn't 59-0, way better than the Broncos.

Green gave Hughes the flick and the Storm picked him up? Green grabbed Drinkwater from Storm probably hoping he was already developed by the Storm brains trust. Seems one bloke has developed and the other is clueless in defence and skater brains in touch football attack. The Storm are well coached the Cowboys?

Fair comment, but I meant it in the context of it being called a try on-field. He probably did scrape the line, but as long as it isn’t an important call in a close game I’m OK with that kind of call. It really does show that even with our high-def slo-motion cameras it can be seriously difficult to call that kind of thing.

There is no imagination in their play... they are so predictable. I don't understand why Green just doesn't give the okay to play some footy. He might be surprised by the results.

Only close, Birthday? Thought it was more than close, myself.

I once said that Neil Henry was a great assistant coach. He was a great tactician but just lacked the ability to inspire a team. Mathew Elliot was another. When Green arrived he had the most inspirational player in the game as his captain and JT was also the controlled unpredictability. He does not have that luxury now. He got a nice lesson on how to coach under adversity tonight. Rob the cowboys problem traces back a few years now. Bad recruitment decisions, too many old players on option contracts, and a one dimensional coach that looks to struggle with inexperienced players, as you alluded to. They need fresh air, Green has to go, pay out will be light. They have nothing to lose. They can go with discipline and get Tooves, or they can get Browny who we know can build a team with inexperience. Big decisions will be made by Monday. I would be shocked if the board have not already secured their target.

I wonder if Green ever coached any team from under 16 or lower? I know he has had success with mature players but these Cowboys are devoid of basic football techniques in defence and attack The wrestling is dead. Coen Hess was a great talent and very committed. Now he’s become brain dead. Taumalolo is a fantastic athlete built for football but has developed into a one trick pony. Charge the ball twice a set.

Wow, big trouble in the Cowboys camp. They can thank the Broncos for the decoy run with the media. They are awful. To start with they are badly coached, stale in attack and soft in defence. Secondly they lack resilience. Thirdly they need a halfback, young Clifford just not up to the standard required to command a side. I love the energy and unpredictability of Drinkwater, but an old coach once said to me, you can’t carry a half who cannot read the play in defence. You can forgive the missed tackles but he has no idea where the attack is heading. I think he owns 24 or more of those points. Morgan still a ways away, if Green actually survives the wait he has a serious issue in the halves. Cowboys look likely to win the dreaded wood this year.

At least they didn't concede 50 because it was heading that way midway through the 2nd and they grabbed a couple of tries as well. That was a shambolic second half performance from the Cowboys. The Roosters were ok but the Cowboys defense made them look a whole lot better. Drinkwater is such a liability in defense, you could see they were aiming both inside and outside him and players either side were struggling. If Morgan is back Drinkwater is going to be dropped like a rock...I'd drop him anyway and find anyone else to play 6.
