Game information

Venue: CommBank Stadium, Sydney
Kick-off: 5:30pm (AEST)
TV: Fox League
Streaming: Kayo Sports, Foxtel
Odds: Eels $2.25, Cowboys $1.65 – odds via PlayUp

Teams

Eels: 1. Clint Gutherson 2. Bailey Simonsson 3. Viliami Penisini 4. Morgan Harper 5. Sean Russell 6. Daejarn Asi 7. Dylan Brown 8. Reagan Campbell-Gillard 9. Joey Lussick 10. Junior Paulo 11. Shaun Lane 12. Bryce Cartwright 13. J’maine Hopgood 14. Luca Moretti 15. Ryan Matterson 16. Joe Ofahengaue 17. Kelma Tuilagi 18. Ofahiki Ogden 19. Blaize Talagi 20. Wiremu Greig 21. Makahesi Makatoa 22. Maika Sivo

Changes galore for Brad Erthur’s Eels, none more dramatic than the omission of long-standing winger Maika Sivo. Daejarn Asi returns in the halves with Blaize Talagi joining Sivo in the reserves. Morgan Harper gets a recall at centre with Bailey Simonsson heading to Sivo’s wing.

Cowboys: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Valentine Holmes 4. Tomas Chester 5. Murray Taulagi 6. Tom Dearden 7. Chad Townsend 8. Jordan McLean 9. Reece Robson 10. Jason Taumalolo 11. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki 12. Jeremiah Nanai 13. Reuben Cotter 14. Jake Granville 15. Griffin Neame 16. Sam McIntyre 17. Jack Gosiewski 18. Jake Clifford 19. Thomas Mikaele 20. Semi Valemei 21. Jamal Shibasaki 22. Viliami Vailea

Young centre Zac Laybutt’s ACL injury means Tom Chester comes in to play centre in his stead. Otherwise, it’s as you were for the Cowboys.

A NSW biased ball, hahaha. I gotta admit, Dejaern Asi gave us something last night. He just took the slightest bit of pressure of Dylan, but it was enough.

Don’t worry. It’s easier to just look at a whole game & say the team I support wasn’t good enough. Other than seeking some excuse. Well played Parramatta . Rose to the occasion without Moses this week.

Yeah, cause he’s the only player who does that.

It’s not a check point. It’s the actual rule: “The direction of a pass is relative to the player making it and not to the actual path relative to the ground.”

No you don’t have to be moving fast at all. If you’re running at 10 kph the ball is also moving at 10kph and a player has to exert that force on the ball to go backwards. It’s almost impossible to do I’ve tried to paste a link to a YouTube video that explains it very clearly - better than I can - but I think it’s been held up by mods Hopefully the video gets through…

I don’t know how you got there. I haven’t mentioned knock ons But no I don’t agree. Knock ons and forward passes are completely different. They’re written differently in the rules. Knock ons are (should be) relative to the ground. Forward passes aren’t adjudicated relative to the ground That’s just how it is. I really don’t have anything else to say about it

I never had that problem. You gotta be moving pretty fast for momentum to affect ball movement. If you pass a ball to a guy that is in line with you, do the physics all you want, it's forward.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=box08lq9ylg&pp=ygUSZm9yd2FyZCBwYXNzIHJ1Z2J5 Watch this video. It goes for three minutes and explains forward passes better than I ever could… If you still think line markings are relevant, I don’t have anything else to say

That’s fine. But it’s got nothing to do with lines on the ground Even jogging slowly it’s almost impossible to throw a ball backwards relative to the ground

Tough audience, Townsend is a big contributor to their success. Who'd be a halfback in this game.

You have to put his behaviour into context. Remember, he is a Manly junior.

Congrats Parra. Joel and the gang. My speccie tip of the round and it got up. Covers my Knights/Rooster disaster. Commiserations to the Cowboys, Jimmy and NQR and the rest. Still a very good team, I do think they aren’t at their best.

That's one of the good check points, another is position of people and if they can identify an offside, they can work out a forward pass. Is all I'm saying.

The Cowboys had the right blueprint to roll the Eels with their start to the game but their failure to convert pressure into points and missed scoring opportunities came back to haunt them. . Dylan Brown lifted tonight to cover for Moses and together with the drive from Gutherson the Eels found a way to grind out a win in front of a boisterous CommBank Stadium crowd, a QLD ref who lost his sense of direction and a NSW-biased ball that never bounced for the Cowboys.

I get you, but I hold to my issue - if they can make offside calls they can make forward pass calls. The argument of momentum is a furfie, the text book example of a pass moving forward off momentum is Charlies Stains in his debut. He was flying. Most forward passes are not at pace and can be easily identified using similar analytics to offside.

I’m hope Gutho never wins a Premiership. His garbage whinging, milking arm waving garbage is a horrible embarrassment for the game.
