It’s a grand final rematch as the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm do battle in a Thursday night blockbuster at the foot of the mountains. Stay up to date with their NRL clash with live scores on The Roar from 8:05pm (AEDT).

Penrith have started their quest for redemption in imperious fashion, brushing aside the Cowboys and Bulldogs in their opening two matches and not conceding a single point along the way. The challenge goes up several notches against the reigning premiers tonight, however, and they’ll need to do it without halfback Nathan Cleary – who misses tonight’s clash under the NRL’s concussion protocols.

The Storm have found the going a bit tougher. They looked sharp for most of their Round 1 win over South Sydney, but couldn’t get the job done against Parramatta last Thursday night in wet and wild conditions. They also enter this match with a big out after fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen was forced to withdraw with a neck injury.

Panthers fans need no reminding of the pain of last October’s loss, with their 17-game winning streak coming to an end against the Storm when it counted. These sides have split their last four meetings two apiece – alternating wins and losses – although, prior to that, Melbourne had won 17 of 18 against the Mountain Men.

DPS I am genuinely nervous and feeling sick about the prospect of Souths forcing Reynolds out the door. It is an idiotic move. Reynolds was top point scorer last year and part of the best (or at least top 2) halves pairings in the competition last year. His goal kicking under pressure and from out wide is a massive bonus and often the difference between finishing several places up or lower on the NRL ladder. Beyond that he is a Souths junior and is only asking for at least two years and decent but not BIG money ($700K - $750K). There are clubs that would play him $1 mill plus. Additionally, it would torpedo moral and the Rabbitohs chances for 2021 and 2022. It is insane an accountant is holding a gun to the head of the Souths premiership chances. Rusty needs to step in and sort this out pronto!

But he retired. So what's the point of that comment?

Yes I get what you mean Albo. They certainly could get some use out of him when there are injuries & maybe Cleary at Origin. But that is a very talented team Penrith have there right now & I reckon their priority will be finding salary cap space to keep the players that will be playing every week. Frustrating for any club when they could go for a decade without having a strong halves combination and then suddenly they have three stars. In the AFL, they could trade one of them off for a playing position they are weak in. But this the NRL & obviously a club gets nothing in return except a bit of salary cap space.

I thought Crichton clearly knocked it forward & the replay confirmed it. The only thing that wasn't straight forward was whether Crichton knocked it into Remis which would have put the Penrith player on-side. The replay showed that it didn't touch Remis so therefore it was a penalty.

Kikau was taken out with a textbook obstruction, also Addo-Carr scored after a phantom knock on.

I am not blaming Burton. I just think the Panthers Club will rue the day they let him go to keep some others . Good spine players are as scarce as hens teeth, and need to be prioritised. He should be in their NRL team fulltime now, in any position you like. I expect he will be in next week as either fullback or centre to cover for Edwards being out with that broken hand.

There looked a possibility that Crichton might have touched the ball forward ( he should have caught the damn thing ! ) , but the bunker ruled otherwise . That's how these decisions go . Swings & roundabouts , I say.

Mate - can’t wait That kicking game is something else. He’s pretty slick with ball in hand too I’m not sure how much good it would do him to be playing with the Dogs this year

First grade halves get paid pretty good salaries & they don't like playing reserve grade. It would be very expensive for Penrith to match the doggies offer to have him playing in the reserves. If you were in Burton's position, how much extra salary would you want earn to justify playing in reserve grade most of the season rather first grade every week at the dogs?

You didn't see Crichton knock it forward & land in the hands of an offside player? Obviously Melb were no certainty to go on & win the game, but they were certainly robbed of the chance to equalise the score with a couple of mins to go.

Agree. If a player collects the ball in an offside position & the bunker is called for a review, surely the bunker should be stating why the offside penalty is not being awarded. They failed to address it in their ruling. I thought the best team won a great game tonight but Melbourne were a bit unlucky.

Losing sucks but knowing we've played 3 of the top 6 sides already and playes 3 good games without smith isn't bad. As i said in round 1, storm will struggle closing out games quicker with no cam smith. As good as an impact player cheese is, Grant will slot in at 9 the min he fit again. Bring on broncos next week and hopefully back to winning ways

I'm just hard to please. High quality armwrestle doesn't do it for me unless I have my team playing. Hating Melbourne just isn't enough to inspire passion.
