No. Time's up for JD. It won't be an instant fix with Meninga, but players will be on notice that jobs/contracts are on the line. Souths have had a horror run with injuries this season which would impact any team, but tonight Souths had a go amidst adversity. They showed courage and effort. Their defence, which is on Demetriou as the defensive coach, was unacceptable, missing 47 tackles and leaking 34 points. The club let Munro return too early. Now he may be out for an extended period of the season. They shouldn't have been missing Cook or Duncan. Both should be back after the Bye round under a different coach. Milne and Chee Kam shouldn't be seen in first-grade again.

Poor last 20 Lacking a vocal forward leader to keep the intensity. For all his faults, Gal kept team accountable

That high shot with a shoulder to the head and no chance to brace himself really shook the kid. It also disrupted his rhythm. He started the game really well. He has to work on defending behind the line and following the ball on Souths try line instead of copying Latrell and being caught at dummy half or walking and watching play unfold as a spectator. He did that at times during the game. Going forward would look to move him to 5/8 and play Tyrone Munro at FB.

Geez that was a tough watch. Exactly the sort of game we'd butcher in the past so will take the win. Albeit against a battered team. Souths youngsters did well though. Wonder what Jack Wighton must be thinking

Come on mate. Look, it can’t get worse, so it has got to be upside. But I do have reservations about Meninga. I reckon he couldn’t walk more than 10 meters without needing a lie down,

If they put Meninga in then they’ll be wearing the Spoon around their necks. Which I would not have picked before the Season started, so I reckon you had pretty good judgement about the eight. This year had been a disaster for them.

You're probably right but I don't think Souths were far off tonight. But with the Storm and Panthers to follow it ain't going to get any better. Are Souths management and supporters willing to be patient? Probably not.

Only a small bit of it. It's not so much bias, but doing their job.

I don't watch Souths as closely as you GB but I thought Hawkins was really good tonight. But Cody is a shadow of what he was. Cody used to look brilliant when you had that lethal left edge with Latrell, Johnston etc ... But with everyone struggling for form he can't seem to lift everyone around him.

Another wholehearted, tireless effort from Cam McInnes… now Cronulla captain, previously StG captain a player StG should never have let go.

Geoff, let's be honest. Each week the ball boy touches the ball more than Cody and does more to affect the game.

Would have won by 12 if Murray stayed on the field.

Well, what we can see is that South's younger players need a bit of time and some big boppers in the middle, there's more than enough of them that are first graders. It would have been nice to win but if they focus on the way they played, there are plenty of positives there. While I think officials are often unfairly criticized, tonight they deserve it. They just didn't seem to want to be out there, and there were way too many illegal high shots either unpunished or too lightly punished, particularly the swinging arm on Murray. The comparison with the rookie ref the other night who was exceptionally good was striking, and maybe South's and the officials have something in common in that are not handling generational change very well.
