The Sydney Roosters and Canterbury Bulldogs do battle at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the final match of Round 14. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4pm (AEST).

With the third-placed Roosters taking on the 16th placed Bulldogs, most pundits will have this match pencilled in as tri-colours win.

Canterbury have looked poor in the three consecutive losses they bring into this match and last week’s loss to the Dragons was a low point in their season.
However, the Roosters enter this duel without sparkling form as well. They were humbled by the Panthers in Round 13 and belted by the Knights a fortnight earlier.

That sets up an interesting match, on what will be a very wet and wild afternoon in Sydney. The rain began early Sunday morning and looks set to continue throughout the day, making the surface a real factor in deciding the winner.

The chooks are depleted with Luke Keary still on the pine and James Tedesco rested for this match. Boyd Cordner will play despite rumour to the contrary, yet the forward pack is weakened with the absence of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

There is still plenty of talent in the Roosters’ side and it will be called upon against a Bulldog’s team looking to impress after the capitulation against the Dragons.

Dean Pay has swung the axe yet again for the Bulldogs with Jack Cogger and Adam Elliott demoted. Those changes see Fa’amanu Brown and Corey Harawira-Naera come into the squad.

The forward pack does look impressive for the Bulldogs. Led by Josh Jackson and Dylan Napa, the men up front will need to match the Roosters through the middle of the field if they have any chance of coming away with the two points.

Prediction
In what looms as a low scoring affair considering the lingering wet conditions in Sydney, the Dogs might be buoyed by the scrap that should take place. There is no doubt that the wet conditions will be something of a leveller yet the class of the Roosters may just prove the deciding factor and get them back into winning ways.

Papi, when you're in the bottom 4 and unlikely to make an impact.. or more importantly.. poor decisions are unlikely to change their outcome... officials are less worried about a stuff up. If you're reffing a game and a call means the Roosters, Melbourne, Brisbane might miss out on a top spot - you KNOW you will cop it if the call doesn't fall their way. But with a low team there will be some mumbles but your job is safe. Remember that call for the O'Sullivan try (that wasn't) on behalf of Roosters over Titans last year? Helped them win the game, get into top 4 and win the comp. Imagine the fall out from Roosters if they lost to Titans off that and if the other forward passes in that game were called? Bottom teams get shafted by the officials.

Commiserations mate to you and TB and the other Dogs supporters. As a long time Rabbitohs supporter we have all walked that road before. It's tough but it gets better but changes must be made. Pay bleeds blue and white but there ARE better coaches and better A-list players that the Dogs need to help restore their bark and their bite. Whatever Foran and Hopoate are on should be halved, in fact both players need to be moved on. Look for young talent (think of Ponga, Murray, Radley, Xerri, Garrick etc) plus a few experienced players looking for a chance to prove themselves, like Mitchell Pearce. The Bulldogs are a proud club with a proud history. They will rebuild but it won't be overnight.

Yep. Manly were one off rock bottom in 2018 and they have certainly gone up since then. But then so have Souths. Last year they were 3rd and so far this year they are 2nd. :-)

Well it's been a low couple of weeks. A long way from how we played against Melbourne back in April, intensity, skill, and resilience all lacking. Everyone seems to be trying but individually not collectively, the passing game has gone backwards, and the talent that we do have can't seem to be applied consistently. I am still at a loss as to why Rhyse Martin can't get a run, he is one of the more talented and footy savvy players we have, and would certainly help with Foran's workload. Not sure where we can go from here but l sure hope it's up.

Feel sorry for the Dogs fans. After the great teams they have had in the past the current mob aren't good enough to shine their boots. Must be tough to watch. They need a coach who can attract some decent players. You would have thought Dessie fitted that bill but he ended up stuffing them up big time. Might take a couple of years to get competitive again.

The Sydney Roosters have returned to winning form with a 38-12 thumping of the Canterbury Bulldogs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On a greasy and slippery surface, the Tri-colours took the lead early and were never in danger of losing a match that they needed to win. First half tries to Latrell Mitchell, Joseph Manu and Sitili Tupouniua set up a 16-6 lead at the break, with only a late try to Will Hopoate giving the Bulldogs any hope against a disciplined Roosters outfit. The completion rate of the home side was close to perfect in the first half. The Bulldogs were pretty good as well, but the longer the half went, the relentless nature of the 2018 Premier's attack became more and more apparent. The valiant defensive effort of the Dogs was to take its toll in the early stages of the second half, as Drew Hutchison crossed the line to extend the Roosters lead to 24-6. Mitchell was to score again and when Isaac Liu and Joseph Manu crossed the stripe later in the half, the score began to look embarrassing for the Dogs against a rejuvenated Easts team. Just a lone consolation try to Raymond Faitala-Mariner would give the visitors anything to cheer about and the Roosters ended the match looking like the serious premiership contenders that most believe they will be. Trent Robinson will be chuffed that without James Tedesco, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Luke Cleary the Roosters were able to clinically put an also-ran to the sword and grab a much needed win. As for Dean Pay? Well it is hard to know what his next step will be after another flogging. The kennell will be looking for blood, although perhaps they should reflect on the poor recruitment and retention decisions made under the previous regime and hope for better days once their salary cap situation is back under control. Final Score Roosters…………..38 Bulldogs…………..12

I really feel for foran, dogs kick-chase is really poor. Good sets and good kicks are let down by horrible, staggered and pathetic chases. That is one of the many improvements they have to make.
