The Sydney Roosters host the Newcastle Knights. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:35pm (AEST).
The Knights, who are coming off one of their best performances in a wee while, will be without key fullback Kalyn Ponga, who is being rested. As it stands, the Knights cannot make the top four, but have locked in their spot for the finals. The only thing they’ve got to play for is home-field advantage in the first week of the finals.
On the other hand, the red-hot Roosters are slowly getting back to their best, with all troops on board for this game. They will need to win out from here, to hold onto their top four spot, with the Raiders hot on their heels. This game will be the second game for star recruit Sonny Bill Williams, who will look to play more minutes and have more of an impact on this game.
Key Match-up
Front Row vs Front Row
Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Siosiua Taukeiaho vs David Klemmer and Jacob Saifiti – what a battle this will be.
Both the Novocastrians represented NSW in origin last year and the Roosters big men are both international props for their respective countries. Both big men will need to be at their very best to steer their respective teams to victory.
Waerea-Hargreaves and Klemmer tend to play their roles the very same; both straight-running, hard-nosed forwards, whereas their partners are flashier and more accustomed to an offloading type of prop. Make no mistake; all of these props are top-notch.
Prediction
I see one-way traffic in this one, especially without Ponga at the back for the team from Newcastle. Roosters by 22.
Kick-off: 7:35pm (AEST)

And they committed 12 errors, again showing that stat is an analyst's crutch. 6 of the top 8 sides are top 8 in errors.

48-12 Can’t believe the bunky ruling on the Lindsay Collins try . The NRL is the kangaroo court of sport.

Understand that, but, pressure on the head/neck area are much more likely to occur backing into a tackle. As suggested elsewhere, I'd like to see anyone staying down go off for NIA, both to protect the player & to try to put a stop to the rep

O’Brien leaving players out tonight was dumb...he spent last year in the roosters system and was in the Melbourne system before that....pick your game up mate

Just noticed something. Easts scored five tries without SBW and two tries when he was on the park. Regardless, they are a class above Newcastle and deserve favouritism for the title. Well done Easts.

Well done Roosters, certainly a force to be reckoned with. Didn't think the Knights did too badly, considering the lead they gave up before they decided to roll their sleeves up & dig deep.

Final game notes The Roosters are just THAT good. So much star quality over the paddock and will be the most feared 3rd place side EVER, come finals time. The Knights just couldn’t capitalise on their ball and pressure. Thanks for tuning in everyone. Hope you enjoyed the call.
