Is Jake Friend in trouble for this late shot?

By The Roar / Editor

Not a great look for the Roosters skipper.

He’s been charged and could get three weeks, but it didn’t warrant a penalty. It’s ludicrous.

It was a bit high but to Clunes credit he got straight up. I think Jackson Ford's trip was worse.

Reynolds kicked someone in the head and only got 10 in the bin... I think you'd need to actually separate a limb from the body to get in the frame.

Jake's probably not used to being able to get someone head high. he looked pretty surprised himself after the contact

Actually thought the penalty was harsh at first because I didn't think it was that late. It wasn't until I saw the replay that I noticed that Friend caught him high. Uncharacteristically careless from him and he knew he stuffed up as soon as he did it and checked on Clune. Probably deserves a week at most.

Spot on Baz. Deadset trip and should have been sent for it.

Do you think Jake thought he was going to jump when he kicked it? He is not usually that careless but there's probably a week in that.

Send off , that's a dirty word. When was the last time there was a send off . I think we should adopt the yellow card system and if you get 2 in one game your gone.

Shudder... you had to listen to Gus. that's worse than the trip

Definitely... I didn’t go there, cause that’s what Gus was saying in the broadcast, but that’s definitely a concern too Ford had no hands on Keary and slid in with both feet...you get a red card for that in soccer

I was more worried about concussion. It's a 1.5 metre arc at speed driving his head into the ground - worse than a high tackle

Agreed...what if Keary landed badly and popped his shoulder ? Trips were never acceptable, now they’re ok for some reason that I don’t understand

Fords trip was as blatant as I have seen in a long long time. Do you think refs have forgotten they can send people off for things like this? I feel like refs only send people off if the other player stays down. The punishment is determined by the effect of the action not the action itself. If clune didn't bounce back up and actually tried to milk it, friend could of easily spent 10 in the bin. Ford was lucky that the try was scored without having to be referred to the bunker.

I didn’t think it was too late but it was high...probably grade one careless Hall should get charged for the leg twist...it was completely unnecessary and done after the try was scored. I wonder what has to happen for an 8 point try to be awarded? Ford should get suspended for the trip on Keary too. We talk about player safety and all the protocols we have these days, yet in the Wild West days of the 80stripping wasn’t tolerated. Automatic send off and suspension. I think players can get away with a fine these days
