Luke Brooks fined for ugly knee on Sea Eagle

By The Roar / Editor

Luke Brooks has been fined followed the Wests Tigers loss to the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.

The Tigers halfback was reported by referee Gerard Sutton just eight minutes into the match.

Brooks had sparked a scuffle between the two teams after planting his knee into Jack Gosiewski’s face as he got up following a tackle.

The 24-year-old has been offered a $1350 fine for “contrary conduct” if he takes an early plea.

Fox League commentator Brett Finch slammed Brooks over the act.

“Back when we played, you’d get squared up there as a halfback,” Finch said.

“You can not get away with putting your knee in a second-rower’s face. That’s rubbish.”

I agree. Anything with the slightest hint of force, or in the nature of grappling. In particular I'd be penalising the crap out of facials. Just keep away from other players' heads. It's not that difficult.

Alternatively, how much would happen if refs actually sent players off for it, which is what they should be doing.

It did not see it so not sen any lead up to it. Something that would appear to be out of character from Brooks but none the less a pretty dumb and dangerous thing to do and once upon a time it would have been a send off, just like the Turpin Stiff arm. But we now do not have send off's because we might up set a coach by disadvantaging his team.....Bwaaaaaaaa!! How about we worry about the disadvantage to the bloke that gets whacked and let the coaches do something about player behaviour....??

yes, wonder if anything will happen about that, it would be hard to argue that it was not deliberate

So it’s not “Brooksies”go?? Must’ve been something Gosiewskis said .. yeah his fault for sure.. I mean he plays for Manly after all and they’re everyone’s favourite pantomime villain.

Yeah maybe but that’s no excuse. It was not a good look. Saw Turpin from the Broncs go in with a swinging arm to a player already on the ground last night. Same, same. Get rid of it . Jim Comans style.

Grubby play like that should get 10 in the bin. Fine him later.

Can’t ever remember Brooksie doing anything like this before..Gosiewski simply had to have been in his ear Dylan Walker-like for him to completely lose it like that..he’s not a grub..

I wonder how much of this stuff we would see if the players were still able to throw punches. Can almost guarantee guys like Brooks and Flanagan wouldn't be dropping knees into forwards heads if they knew that would have to square up afterwards.

Give him two weeks. We've got to stamp out petty grubbery. It's a disgrace to the game.
