Kent should be more worried about what he is going to do next year, because based on the drivel dished out on NRL 360 since Ikin left it will not be around next year
I was being a little bit tongue in cheek but HIA protocols where definitely in place in 2014 and completely ignored by the Rabbitohs. It’s not a false equivalency at all…
I’m definitely in the camp of Burgess’ effort being one of the bravest I’ve seen on a footy field, but that doesn’t change that by the letter of the law he shouldn’t have been out there
If you’re picking out what Luai said and how Penrith treated it, Burgess said much the same after the game and Souths did exactly what Penrith did…
Yeah, I think it has to head that way. I don’t know if independent doctors can do the actual HIAs but in instances like Cleary’s where he clearly showed the signs that warrant a HIA they could easily have someone independent who orders the player off
Good point BD, we should never forget that. Souths/Bennett will win it for Alex McKinnon he stated this week ‘I wish I could play again just to be around him (Bennett)’: McKinnon’s tribute to Bennett was touching, wishing he could strap on the boots just one more time.
so did Sattler in 1971….false equivalency to suggest what you did, HIA rules and protocol have been the issue this year and were different in 1971, 2014….
The fact that the NRL won't disclose their findings just about says it all . They have no idea at all. The fans , clubs , the players want leadership and understanding but we'll just put it in the too hard basket and think about it in the off season . Ever since Alex McKinnon all they have is knee jerk reaction every time there is an incident
So take the clubs out of the process and deny them an option of gaming the rules. It is not rocket science if the NRL brains trust can’t work this out maybe it’s time they resigned from their positions in the NRL.
Additionally players are desperate to play on as they are playing for a position in the team and at times a contract with the club or a new club.
Reminds me of 2014 when Sam Burgess said at full time he couldn’t remember any of the grand final and was pleading to come off but Roadkill Maguire forced him to stay out there…
It's a shame that conversation is about coaches/trainers rorting the rules when they know a player is injured and either does or does not meet HIA protocols. It makes a complete mockery of the NRL's stated views about player safety.
It also detracts from what all should be focused on, which team will win a game of footy because they're the better team, not because they managed to put one over on the refs.
Unfortunately this seems to happen every week.
I'd rather see 7 reserves instead of 4 and no interchange. When a player comes off, and one of the 7 reserves go on, he stays off.
Kent is 100% correct. Cleary not coming off for a head assessment with 12 mins to go effectively meant Penrith won, no Cleary for the last 10mins and few would have bet against a Storm win. As for Luai stating he blacked out & had dizzy spells , yet he comes back in to play. This is a rort of the system.
100% correct… some of the interchange rules need tweaking. Two “free” interchanges is too much. It’s clear teams are gaming the concussion protocols which makes it tough for the NRL to make viable rules…
It’s a very real situation that a team playing by the rules will finish up playing men short while a team gaming will have all their personnel and a few extra interchanges…

I agree except in the event of foal play which would clearly be decided by the officials either on the ground or in the bunker

That footage of both Luai and Cleary are pretty bad. And using HIA for Smith as well is equally as dodgy. Independent doctors?
