Peter Sterling explains why he thinks the 'Six Again' rule needs to be amended

By The Roar / Editor

He says quite often teams who get the extra tackles would be better served with a penalty.

It's an artificial, borrowed American concept. No limits on tackles, but the defending team should be able to steal or kick the ball away. The game of NRL has become too formulaic and predictable. Start listening to the fans and ignore the coaches or whoever wants this perfect designed for TV nonsense.

The six again is a huge cop out . But referee's seem to give them for no apparent reason and the teams have worked it out .

Geez, I'd love to see Sterling replace Annesley as head of football . His sensible reasoning would really improve the game .

6 agains - worst rule ever. Get rid of it.

Six again is here to stay but I didn't understand why you just can't allow the attacking team to chose if they want a penalty or six again? Sometimes an attacking team would benefit from a six again in their own half even after a leg pull if they have the defence completely shot and Sabb or Fox for example are unmarked just wide of the ruck.

Forget about tinkering with the rule and bringing in conditions where sometimes it's a penalty and sometimes it isn't - every time a new rule or clause is added the game gets more complicated and more confusing. Keep it simple, scrap the six again, just go back to penalties.

I’m with the latter proposition. It has had zero positive impact on the game. Get the referees to do their job rather than let them off the hook with randomly awarded six agains

If it’s in your own quarter = automatic penalty. If it’s in first 3 tackles, the 6 again gets added to the end of the existing full set of 6. If it’s in penalty goal range, the attacking team has the option of calling for a shot at goal (I mean very quickly, within a few seconds). Also, once a team has received 3 in a half, all subsequents calls are penalties.

Any infringement in the attackers own half should be a penalty. Or just scrap 6 again...
