Don’t really pay attention to AFL Micko.
Are the Swanettes still around? Dr Edelstein?

Surfer is an athlete 1000%.

The GOAT: Who really is the greatest athlete of our generation?

The comment that NFL doesn’t deserve goat status because it’s only played professionally in US is absurd.
Considering the number of participants, professionalism, money involved, competetiveness of the competition someone like Tom Brady has as legitimate reasons to be called GOAT as a Messi or Jordan.
In my mind the following have legitimate reasons to be called Sport GOAT:

Tom Brady
Michael Jordan
Roger Federer
Kelly Slater
Lionel Messi
Usain Bolt

The GOAT: Who really is the greatest athlete of our generation?

Agreed.

All the best to you Latrell (except when you’re playing Easts).
And thanks for helping us win in 18-19.

But you gotta lose some weight son.

Latrell Mitchell re-signs with Rabbitohs

Beathy
Jimmy Maloney went from Melbourne to Worriers to Easts to Cronulla to Penrith to SL.
He’d probably count?

Ps Can I still call you Beathy?

The Australian rugby league nomads

Very compelling argument 40:20.

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

It does beg the question Nat, has all the fun/spontaneity been programmed out of them.

In sports in general, why are there so many older sportsmen competing at such high levels?

Tom Brady
Fed, Dokevic, Nadal
Kelly Slater
Cameron Smith

Improvement in sport science, medicine, dieting may be a reason for increasing longevity.

Could it also be that pre-iphone athletes could play/compete what’s in front of them? That they could just improvise with the wind in their hair, relying on instincts borne from playing footy with your older brothers/friends in the backyard while trying to avoid bindis, concrete grazes and trees etc – a slowly dying phenomena…

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

Haha

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

That was indeed, Barry.

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

He went too high Birdy.

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

Where have all the genuine playmakers gone?

In RL and RU!

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

Best playmaker in RU I’ve seen is Mark Ella.

But I might be looking at him with rose coloured glasses?

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

As a pair, I’d probably order as follows:
1. Sterling-Kenny (by the thinnest of margins because they won 4 premierships together, and they pushed out the incumbent Mortimer-Lewis combo in the 82 Roo tour)
2. Langer-Lewis
3. Stuart-Daley
4. Mortimer-Lamb

And again potential wise, the Alexander-Fittler combo could’ve become anything if not for Superleague and other stuff.

Who is the ultimate playmaker in NRL history?

From me the No 6 is more clear cut:

First rung:
1. Wally
2. Kenny

Second rung:
No order – Freddy, Lockyer, Thurston (also a 7), Daley

Third rung:
No order – Lamb, Cliffy Lyons, Kev Walters; in a fourth rung – Florimo, Filipana

You could win a premiership with any one of above

Halfbacks are a lot harder. My totally subjective order:
1. Langer
2. Thurston
3. Johns
4. Sterling
5. Stuart
6. Mortimer

One bloke who probably had the most talent out of all the 7’s that I’ve seen was Greg Alexander – but family tragedy probably dented him reaching his full potential. He could step, kick, pass, tackle, the whole lot and I’d bet he was the fastest of all the halfbacks listed.

One thing is certain:
The Montanna v Brady debate has been well and truly settled in my mind.

The GOAT of GOATs Part 1: Cameron Smith versus Tom Brady

What in blue blazes are you talking about Diabolic?
RL is the no 1 winter sport in NSW & Qld.
VFL is no 1 in Vic and the rest. Not that I give a flying intercourse about the VFL or Victoria.
I also like the NFL because it’s probably most similar to NRL and I’ve noticed they’ve pinched a few ideas off us this year.
I also follow ( loosely) the NBA, Epl, tennis etc and other sports, but Rugba League will always be no.1 in my heart.

The GOAT of GOATs Part 1: Cameron Smith versus Tom Brady

Fair point Joe. If we combine collisions, power AND stamina probably NRL players have it over the NFL. But don’t forget, its usually only the first 20 minute ‘softening up’ period where the hits are fiercest. Fatigue tends to lessen the impact (especially in the second half).
NFL players have so many teams and rest period such that the hits are as hard in the 1st minute as they are in the 60th. Definitely not padded up sissies.

The GOAT of GOATs Part 1: Cameron Smith versus Tom Brady

Fair enough Nat.
As a New South Welshman, I’d put Langer and Lockyer above Johns.
Has there ever been a better clutch player than Lockyer?

The GOAT of GOATs Part 1: Cameron Smith versus Tom Brady

Instead of Smith, a better equivalent may be Cronk?
If we include the stripped titles,
4 rings @ Storm
2 rings @ Easts
Like Brady, brought immediate success with new club. Like Brady, the consumate professional on and off the field with an incredible work ethic.

You’re a hard marker Beathy. 😊

The NRL all-star team of one-club stalwarts

Good morning John Allan
I have similar sentiments and will state Bunny Reilly was the one and only true ‘Axe’. He definitely should have patented it.
Gilmeister had a good season in 1987, but other times, he seemed to only play well when SOO was around the corner. Very infuriating, and I totally get how Souths fans feel about Gagai.

The NRL all-star team of one-club stalwarts

Luke Ricketson, Kevin Hastings and Bunny Reilly only played for Easts but may find it hard to dislodge your team players.
