The Chiefs need to bounce back from their shock loss to the Reds last week when the host the Melbourne Rebels… in Sydney. Follow along as Round 4 of Super Rugby Trans-Tasman concludes with live scores on The Roar from 3pm (AEST).

The Rebels’ inability to travel to New Zealand given the Victorian COVID-19 outbreak has seen this game moved to Sydney; however, the Rebels aren’t in a great place to make the most of that advantage.

It’s been a disaster of a tournament for the Melbourne-based side thus far, losing all three games handsomely and scoring a competition-low 43 points. It follows an underwhelming Super Rugby AU tournament in which they failed to make the finals and parted ways with coach David Wessels.

The Chiefs have the unwanted mantle of becoming the first New Zealand side to lose to an Australian counterpart, when they went down to the Reds in Round 3. Given they lost the talismanic Damian McKenzie to a red card mid-match, they did perform creditably to close the margin to six points after a 33-3 first half; but their hopes of backing up their Super Rugby Aotearoa runner-up effort with another final appear all but shot.

McKenzie will miss through suspension thanks to that red card, while Luke Jacobson will captain the side with regular skipper Brad Weber to start on the bench.

From memory I think I.Perese was always selected on the wing when he got a game for the Reds (SR2018??) before he went off to the Broncos. He was quite fast and elusive and looked talented and could read a game. The Reds had massive hopes for him, he was about 20 yo but his knees kept going on him.

oopos, I forgot Matt Toomua. The Kiwi is correct, MT will be there somewhere. Ist test as starting inside centre with him and JOC swapping to "confuse the enemy" and likely H.Paisami at outside centre. Easier selections now that S.Vumivalu and J.Petaia are out of the French series.

Crowds have been ok too. I mean Rebels vs Chiefs for a neutral venue was decent yesterday.

I like SRAU expanded to 6 teams plus champions league model with Japan’s top league teams and SRNZ etc. if they’re interested of course. I enjoy playing NZ teams. All this rugby will benefit the wallabies. Rennie will get his paws on some hardened men ready for the French.

I said last year that I w0uld n0t select T00mua because we already kn0w what he brings .... and I was right .... 2021 sh0uld be Paisami at 12 and Perese at 13, with J0C at 10, G0rd0n at 9, and the 2 Fijians n the wings being K0r0 and V

And how is that fair? Sounds like the dreaded conference system where you win and take a higher position with less points

"credit to the Brumbies for a gutsy performance." I saw the Rebels and the Chiefs out there on Leichhardt Oval but I'm buggered if I saw the Brumbies!! Specsaver appointment overdue. The prospect of THREE teams playing against each other at the same time is a delicious prospect - one I think WR should look into asap!!

CG showing some real promise. Seems the oz drought for 10s may be over with quite a few emerging talents.

How did Wallaby prospects Hosea and Leota go in the Rebels forwards? And Carter Gordon at flyhalf?

I totally get that TJ. Five teams makes a great SRAU as well, and leaves room for Fiji. I suspect that RA will go for the SRAU plus Champions League or TT model, because you get to keep the five teams and fan interest, which would soon dissipate if a full season TT was too one sided. Yes I remember in the 80s the big two states played our big provinces early in the season, I don't remember that being one sided at all.
