Match preview:

Pool C in the World Cup heats up as England and Argentina go toe to toe. Join The Roar from 6pm (AEST) for this juicy encounter.

This is a must-win game for the Pumas. Lose, after their close loss to France, and their tournament is dead in the water.

England will want to win to keep their chase up for top spot. If they beat the Argies, then it will come down to their clash with France.

They have had easy victories over Tonga and the USA, but this is their first proper contest in Japan.

England enjoy a great record against Argentina. They have won the past nine meetings in a row and last lost to them in 2009.

The two countries have meet twice at World Cups before and the Red Rose has been triumphant on both occasions.

George Ford will start at 10 for Eddie Jones’ side, with captain Owen Farrell at inside centre. Manu Tuilagi will partner Farrell in the centres and Kyle Sinckler comes into the front row.

Anthony Watson and Jonny May start on the wings, with Jack Nowell named on the bench. Mako Vunipola and Courtney Lawes are also on the bench.

England will start with a potent back-row of Tom Curry, Sam Underhill and Billy Vunipola.

Argentina have made a number of surprising changes as they get ready for a game they are billing as their ‘World Cup final’.

Julian Montoya has been preferred at hooker instead of veteran Agustin Creevy. Nicolas Sanchez has been dropped after some sub-par peformances for Benjamin Urdapilleta.

Pablo Matera will captain the Pumas and be joined in the back-row by Marcus Kremer and Javier Ortega Desio.

Argentina are predicting a war up front and in the forwards. This is an all-or-nothing contest for the South Americans, one that will ultimately prove their worth.

Prediction
This is going to be tight, brutal and fiercely fought. But history and depth suggests England have the edge.

England to win by five points.

Join The Roar from 6pm (AEST) for the play by play.

I understand why World Rugby want to look after the player's safety -- I have no issue with that --but they ALSO have to look after the interests of rugby spectators -- we want an 80 minute contests -- else we'll turn off. Japan are the best Rugby World Cup hosts yet. However, this has been the worst World Cup on the field (and on TV) thanks to constant TMO replays (of the wrong thing). How often have we seen a sparkling piece of back play live, then gone back to ten TMO replays of a contentious tackle , and never replayed the sparkling backline move. Madness! World Rugby has focussed the rugby world's attention on the very things they want to eradicate: shoulders to the head, at the expense of all the inspirational things about our game. Nice job World Rugby. Not.

Problem is it’s not the same for everyone because so many similarities offences are missed.

He has serious history but his height may well be a bit of the problem. A shorter player may execute on a different plane.

As the priest said it is not the sleeping that is the issue.

More often than not, a shoulder led challenge will escape even a penalty as teams defend a line and throw bodies in. You’ll literally see it on every line defence as the phases build. Sinckler made his too obvious and got pinged. Disgraceful? If he’d been in penalty try territory, he’d have left the field.

I kept it to words of one syllable just for you Jokerman, and it seems you can read, though perhaps you got some help. You clearly however can't comprehend. Keep trying though, you may get there one day.

The game was ruined by the red card. World Rugby has destroyed the game.

What other red did you see in that game? Whose yellow was more of a let off than Matera's cynical hit on Farrell? What penalty wasn't given, and which one should have been a clear yellow? Waiting for the disgrace.

Saw that gonzo. I am one of the few aussies that is a fan of Eddie I think. If we can't win it then I want him to with England.

Eddie Jones post match interview – “How’s Billy? He looked injured.” “I think he’s had too much Kobe beef mate.” *big grin. Not sure what that says to be honest. Not injured, or injured and Eddie doesn’t want to give anything away? Your guess is as good as mine.

Problem for England (and Australia) is that they will most likely have to play Australia, South Africa and New Zealand consecutively. They can’t win those 3 in a row at Twickenhan, let alone away from home.

I would never coach that. Nor do it as a player. My ugly melon is ugly enough.
