Moana Pasifika and the Blues meet in a catch up match on Tuesday night to make up for a postponed game earlier in the season. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:05pm AEDT.

Both teams have made bulk changes after securing victories on the weekend. No doubt the coaching staff are mindful of player burnout with three games in just over a week.

Samoan international Jack Lam will lead the Moana side with eleven players set to make their debut.

The Blues will be without Beauden Barrett after his head knock with Stephen Perofera to start at flyhalf.

“It is both a challenge and an exciting opportunity,” said Blues head coach Leon MacDonald.

“The situation is simple. You can’t play your most experienced players three times in eight days. It may not by ideal but we just get on with it.

As long as they don’t come further to BOP…

Always those extra fees!! I believe it’s called.. daylight robbery! Maybe if they turn them into wave pools like they want to at Eden park, might create enough revenue to compensate the poor SR crowds. Seems strange considering the good waves around Piha or Raglan

Yea, not terrible but certainly not great. Having gone to the Chiefs/Saders, I can tell you it felt weird being around so many people and in a crowd. I saw maybe a dozen masks if that. I made sure we sat away from everyone else so in that sense, having a smaller crowd was good. I have a feeling this weekends crowds will be up, but no sellouts. The cost is an interesting one. My tickets priced up at $80-something. (2 adults 3 kids). I thought ‘sweet as’. Then a processing charge of $6 each ticket got chucked on, now it’s high $90s, then another mark up, maybe a credit card surcharge (even though it wasn’t a credit card), all up it was just over $100 bucks. All done online. Not bad for a good night out for a family of 5, but thought it’s really sneaky to show the ticket ‘price’, then effectively add another 25% in fees for largely unavoidable parts of the transaction.

When the Reds played the Crusaders in the SR final at Suncorp the hire cost was $600,000

We’ll post COVID things might have changed but based on what I have been told Suncorp would be a minimum $200,000 to hire

Places like Eden Park is something like $30,000. That was waived during the no crowd period.. Not sure about now if they allow crowds back? But maybe shifting games to smaller venues would make sense, like Mt Smart. At least until more interest is established.

Highlanders vs blues was on the weekend in Dunedin, think around 7,000 went. Not to bad.. But could have been more

Pricing is an interesting exercise. Stadium hire is not cheap and I think most would be surprised at that cost. I have a season pass for $200 but at the goalpost end and that’s not too bad. I think the better seats are about $400 for a season so about $60 a match. Perhaps pricing the season tickets cheaper may be a solution.

No need for the aggression- I did not think the numbers would be huge but it looked not much more than family and friends- this was the first MP game with no restrictions. Crowds have been poor at all games in Australia and NZ but I would have thought 5000 considering both teams are based in Auckland

This is the game played on Tuesday night? Probably the Tuesday night was an issue, late notice maybe, publication etc? While people might look to see who’s playing in the weekend, you would have to be told these guys were playing on Tuesday. I think I only found out on Monday, and only because I come on the roar.

I felt the same! Thought the flood gates would open.. But, no. I can only assume majority aren’t taking the risk, or it’s because people have lost interest in attending a SR game? The prices of SR tickets might not be in the family budget these days.. Still way over priced! 30-70 bucks an adult, kids over 14 classed as an adult? That’s not a cheap outing

The ABs need guys with this commitment and desire.. it’s lacking in a lot of these players.. or it’s just taken for granted.

I was shocked by how small the crowd was, perhaps 2000. Aussie crowds have been poor but Rugby is not in a happy place in Australia and has a lot of competition for eyeballs. Even the Rebels poor attendance looked a lot more than at this match. And only 7500 at the Highlanders for the first match after restrictions lifted. Let’s hope partly because of COVID influence.

MP are being more competitive than many thought. Only a 13 point loss. Well done to both teams.

Yes, and the same story but to an even greater extent for MP. These midweeks are ok if both teams totally change the squad, same for everyone and the youngsters get a chance.

I totally agree, you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know that your strength comes from your feet. Stand over and use your body strength to either slow or win the ball, our players need to be re educated.
