The Wallabies are coming to the end of their Spring Tour and have managed to scrape together a team to take on a Wales side looking to bounce back from defeat to Georgia last week. Join The Roar from 2:15am (AEDT) on Sunday morning for live coverage.

The wounded Wallabies have limped into Cardiff and assessed the carnage of last week’s loss to Ireland, which has left them with only 25 fit players to pick from this week.

The injury ward was already full of Wallabies players with a host sent home to assess their various injuries, even before Michael Hooper was ruled out with concussion. It leaves Dave Rennie working on a backrow combination to take on the likes of Justin Tipuric and the big frame of Taulupe Faletau and has gone with Langi Gleeson over Pete Samu.

With the international window closed, the likes of Bernard Foley and Will Skelton were not able to play and that sees Ben Donaldson given the nod at flyhalf over Noah Lolesio, who rides the pine again this week to ponder what he needs to do to get back in the good books.

With Reece Hodge named alongside Donaldson, expect to see a long kicking game from the Wallabies to turn the Welsh around and attempt to pin them down their own end but the Wallabies will have to be more clinical in taking their chances – something they failed to do last week.

Jake Gordon is a curious selection at scrum-half after a game he would rather forget last week, and that sees the only other available 9 left in the squad, Tate McDermott, on the bench.

Len Ikitau has been one of the most consistent Wallabies in 2022 and his matchup with George North will be interesting. Ikitau’s defensive work has kept the Wallabies in games this year and he has proven he can be a physical presence as Bundee Aki found out last week.

The bench could be where this game is won as Wales are able to call on Rhys Priestland, who sunk Wallabies hopes in the same fixture last year with a late penalty goal.

I’m just hoping this game doesn’t come to a kick to win it to continue the theme of this tour that, for some, can’t end soon enough.

Dave, BD has got potential but just needs more time. I don’t think the RWC is the place for him to find his feet in test arena, which could do more damage to his development. We’re really missing those 10s in their late 20’s and if they were here then BD, TE, NL and CG would only be in the reckoning for RWC27 & not now. Chieka didn’t develop any young 10s from 6yrs ago and just stuck with BF, JOC, Christian & Toomua so we’re paying for that now. DR is at least giving some young 10s a go and I think we’ll see more of that post RWC23 in AUS or AUS A to prep for RWC27.

Fair enough. To be honest I'll be stunned if QC is fit for the RWC, putting our hopes in an ageing 10 who barely took thy field this year seems foolish. Lolesio really didn't do much against Wales, I'm struggling to see why he gets credit for the comeback. It was mostly Marky Mark who did it, Tate and Lolesio just happened to be on the field at the time. And Foley gives you journeyman rugby, better than the he is credited for around here but rarely anything special. So Donaldson might not be quite so far out of the reckoning, even granting that he isn't ready yet.

Dispense of him? Read it again. I said BD will likely be there for RWC27 but needs more time and experience. 5 tests is not enough as there’s a few 10s ahead of him that will need that remaining game time for RWC23. I just don’t get the hype from some here as if BD is the answer now for RWC23. BD has some skills & potential but that is all. Would you seriously take a young 10 with less than 20 tests, who hasn’t won anything at SR level to a RWC? Now that makes sense

So your argument is that because Donaldson couldn't get much going on his first start with perhaps the most understrength team in the history of Australian rugby, on limited prep, with new combinations and a journeyman at 12, we should permanently dispense with him? Makes sense.

And his coaching team. Will Wales be brave enough to clean out the four legends in the coaches box? Don't know if they have selection responsibility or whether that's totally up to Wayne Pivac. Maybe they just don't get on together, something's rotten. Stephen Jones – attack coach (Wales 104 tests + 6 B&I Lions) Gethin Jenkins – defence coach (129 & 5) Neil Jenkins – skills & kicking (87 & 4) – four B&I Lions tours as specialist kicking coach Jonathan Humphreys – forwards coach (35).

Wright had a good game to fill in at 15. His 1 mistake didn’t cost us the game and he made up for that with his try saving tackle held up over the line to end the 1st half. 84m gained, several passes with the last leading into the winning try, offloads, three defenders beaten, and made 100% of his tackles. Wright also launched a booming contestable kick to force a 5m scrum leading toward Noah to Len to Marky’s first try (scrum & ruck was awesome in that sequence).. Yup you’d take that effort and Wright is showing his utility in the back three! The attack game changed with Noah & Tate coming on. Tahs can keep Gordon & Donaldson. Donaldson didn’t create anything of note in the whole first half so what’s the fuss about him with perspective to RWC23?. If DR picks three 10s for RWC it’ll be QC, NL, BF and maybe JOC to choose from. Maybe Donaldson if injuries are still an issue for WB but he needs to develop a ton more experience for RWC27.

My sons birthday today , he is a wallabies fan but gee it is hard sometimes to keep a 10 year old interested. This sort of win helps !! My thoughts Great win. Maybe some credit can go to McDermott for this one. He gets a lot of flack on this site for a lack of skills. He was linking with players and tackled his backside off at the end taking down several welsh forwards. I would have replaced Gordon straight after the card. Surely thats his last chance. McReight was used as a link player and wider runner not a basher/pick and driver - this is his role. Samu was unbelievable. When he plays well the wallabies go well . Tom wright - as unpredictable as usual, that ball drop could have lost it for us. He has too much of that in his game. Jock campbell was solid when he came on. A solid 15 with two execptional wingers like Mark N and Koroibete could be amazing going forward. My view is campbell is a back three link player that could help to position the more dynamic runners. He is very solid otherwise. Mark N - as above just so good nothing to say. Felt sorry for Donaldson - he had to play half back for a good period and had to manage a 13 on 15 period. Langi Gleeson was good in contact. will be better for experience. Frost looks like a seasoned wallaby - very good. FF - it really amazes me that Brumbies are so dominant in SR with maul tries given the inaccuracy at lineout. One of his non straight overthrows gave the welsh possesion in Walaabies half leading to a try. I know they scored from a maul but the throwing has been an issue all year.

Not too high Doc. From my view, with respect, too narrow. We will discuss on the happy morrow.

I find some of the kicking lacking positional sense. Too often it’s up in the air and taken by the opposition with zero pressure applied.

Grace, Davo? Folau did not mean to make any mistakes. It costs nothing to be nice.
