I’m stunned that creighton was chosen over HMP. HMP has been very impressive and should have had more game time against force .

Super Rugby teams week six: Foketi back after horror injury, Suli benched, Sam Carter set for debut, DMac rested

Problem is they don’t have it in the online articles at all for courier mail / Australian
There was a positive article in the Sunday mail ie “reds are real deal “but this isn’t visible in the app online version unless you download the full paper. Nothing in news.com.au.
Sunday nine news who supposedly promote the game ran the story last in sport and led the intro with the story of petiai being talked to by St. George then a short story re reds . Hardly befitting the atmosphere and result.
Nine should be promoting the sport better as a partner .

'Over the moon': Reds deny Chiefs for 23 PHASES to win 'titanic' trans-Tasman clash as Kiss' revolution continues

I wonder how news ltd papers will report this game – if they even bother it will likely be something like – it took a league player to coach reds to victory .

'Over the moon': Reds deny Chiefs for 23 PHASES to win 'titanic' trans-Tasman clash as Kiss' revolution continues

At the game and went on an inner sanctum tour pre game with james O’Connor -an excellent initiative for longstanding members. Joc was extremely personable and emphasized the big positive changes in the coaching group this year. Sounded like a team really in tune with the coaching group. Lost my voice by the end . Good to hear the crowd at suncorp roaring again . Noted how dominant harry wilson is, faesler looks very good at hooker, vunivalu had his best game I’ve seen, Isaac Henry had good gain line mid field , tandem lynagh then hmp worked. Zane nongorr gets better each week. The negative was tates passing dropping off with fatigue in second half .

my favourite was a story mentioning a Reds 18 player who “is a league boy at heart”. I know the family and he played one season of meninga cup and had no intention of paying league. It was farcical. It fit the narrative of the U18 etc being feeder for NRL though.

Five things we learned: The general who caught Schmidt's eye, why next week is vital for Coleman's Tahs

Can we add a 6th thing ie The ongoing pathetic news coverage of rugby in wider press. The Courier mail headline today was ” Reds blow it big time” . Nick tucker the journo at the courier mail is a hack if thats the best he can come up. It was a great game on the back of some other great rugby over the weekend. It ended in a draw and went to golden point. This co-ordinated death riding of rugby has me on the verge of cancelling all of my news and foxtel subscriptions.

Good day out at ballymore !
Lawson continues to struggle at ten – never seems to click
His replacement McLaughlin Phillips has great footwork. Interested to see Lynagh and O’Connor when they get their opportunity.
Jock Campbell looked very attacking and petiai was good too. Vunivalu still looks off pace .
Force were too good with counter attacking tries . Both teams were pretty scrappy and no nz teams at this stage would be worried by what they saw
Shame the other trials haven’t been broadcast

Force edge Reds at Ballymore after Harry Potter double as fit-again Wallaby stars

Reds seem to be getting good crowd turn outs for the trial games against wild knights and for the force tomorrow at ballymore. This is despite virtually no marketing aside from social media. Maybe dont make them trial games but an actual comp ie off season competiton between SRAU teams . Also gives opportunity for the fringe players to play instead of holding tackle bags. Get the teams rolling before the SR comp. Could have a second local round post SR . I agree the season seems too short compared to NRL / AFL .

Decision time: Clubs queuing up to pounce on Rebels' best as Rugby Australia given warning over in demand Wallabies

When the force were cut there was a groundswell of support from the sea of blue and then twiggy offered 50million to RA to get them back in. The response to the Rebels in crisis so far – crickets .

Surely in melbourne there are some benefactors that could form a consortium to sort something out beyond 2024.

Decision time: Clubs queuing up to pounce on Rebels' best as Rugby Australia given warning over in demand Wallabies

Is that a direct quote because I actually saw the interview on fox and that’s not how I remember it. I do remember him saying it was a toxic environment and it was having an effect on him but I do not recall him saying he wouldn’t play for Australia .
Here’s a link I found

Quade Cooper rides the road to redemption in Japanese rugby return

It would be nice to see some media coverage of the success the women are having, instead all they want to do is stick the boot in where they can or totally ignore rugby.

'Gutsy', 'brave': Aussie women survive first-half red card to claim back-to-back tournaments, men go down in final

Note to wallabies marketing team – don’t use players on advertising material for future tours who don’t have contracts for that time period. Surely that would have been considered as a risk ? That lions tour poster with marky mark is another own goal that will keep on hurting.

'We don’t hold any grudges': Why Wallabies star will still be picked in 2024 despite NRL defection

It’s disappointing that he couldn’t see an opportunity be part of a rebuild of rugby as a sport in AUS. Again it’s a waste of coaching and development for a player like this to depart but it’s his choice. I’m hoping another outside back steps up that is more committed to the sport. I wouldn’t be inclined to pick someone for the 2027 wc who has left the sport when the sport really needs commitment from leaders within it including players.

Done deal: Wallabies star signs with NRL powerhouse in brutal reality check for RA at start of 'golden decade'

I really hope this is a positive change but hasn’t Herbert been on this board the whole time and involved in many of the bad decisions ? The centralisation talk is already being softened. What is the timeline? When will we see a plan.
It’s a bit like the government spruiking the change of reserve bank governor. The new governor had been assistant governor for over ten years. Why would you expect any meaningful change? Fingers crossed Herbert is successful for the sport.

New chair says Aussie rugby must end 'sugar hit' approach, 'fears' for game's future if reform doesn't occur quickly

A big concern I have for an incoming chair is potential cowing to intimidation of the states. They will have flexed and demonstrated who has the real power in AUS rugby. I would like to see the rebel states put on notice to publish their ideas now for centralisation with some detail. If the states wield this power then they need to own the problems too. Perhaps some articles from journos on the relative strengths and weaknesses of the state rugby organizations and the boards that run them would be a good thing. The federated model of AUS rugby seems pretty outdated and destined to be beholden to parochialism but theres no changing that right now. It’s a governance mess. HM really overstepped in his position as chair with Eddie and sualii , hopefully Phil Waugh will now resume running all operations with highest priority centralization. board members at both state and federal levels should stay in their lanes.

Exclusive: Embattled chair asks for extension, Rugby Australia meet AGAIN as civil war breaks out

I am no Hamish fan but I hope this isn’t just riding the coat tails of anger against him to kill off centralization. . I’d prefer he stay and get that job done rather than go and just have more of the same state and national failures . As I said in a previous post all of the state boards have been presiding over failing businesses – most don’t make money and all have been failing at winning rugby comps. So why aren’t we holding the state boards accountable as well ?

Some nice figures here and doesn’t include Japan by the looks

NRL powerhouse target Wallabies young gun as replacement for Suaalii

Hope Japan rings RA for a reference check

Rugby News: 'Be courageous' - Eddie's come and get me plea to Japan, Bongi's dig at 'sad' reaction from 'first world country'

And then Eddie announces he is interested in the Japan coach job after all !

Are rugby administrators dumb, Japan would be crazy to take EJ on. I think a call from RA to JRU with a reference might be in order

2027 would be interesting with EJ coaching Japan in AUS WC

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

lets name a coach first and nail the governance changes around centralisation. Let the players play some games and name a team based on form and injury availability. Conjecture right now regarding wallabies team is pointless .

Predicted Wallabies team in 2024: Eddie's outcasts back as halves, back-row battles heat up

Well earned boos too!
After the Kangaroos loss to kiwi league team can RA now officially kill off the nrl recruitment addiction. That money should go to aspiring union schoolboys and club players coming through.
Also stop picking contracted nrl schoolboys in rugby union rep teams – blind Freddy can see that only helps league and sabotages rugbys development . All you ever hear in press is how a certain player impressed and then as a foot note – they are signed to dolphins , roosters etc

'Hell of a win': 14-player Wallaroos hold on for stunning win over Wales to send coach out on a high

I see it reported that qantas brand measures have it now behind virgin with customers. I wonder where RA sits compared to qantas. Neck and neck racing to the bottom ?

Its hard to have much confidence in the process of appointment of a coach after they they announced Eddie jones mate Justin Harrison would be one of the reviewers of the world cup failure. Save your money the summary will be unnecessarily verbose and can be distilled to – the system is stuffed and it was not totally EJ’s fault.

Hopefully RA upgrade them to business class seats back from Dunedin ! Great effort .
