Problem is they don’t have it in the online articles at all for courier mail / Australian
There was a positive article in the Sunday mail ie “reds are real deal “but this isn’t visible in the app online version unless you download the full paper. Nothing in news.com.au.
Sunday nine news who supposedly promote the game ran the story last in sport and led the intro with the story of petiai being talked to by St. George then a short story re reds . Hardly befitting the atmosphere and result.
Nine should be promoting the sport better as a partner .

At the game and went on an inner sanctum tour pre game with james O’Connor -an excellent initiative for longstanding members. Joc was extremely personable and emphasized the big positive changes in the coaching group this year. Sounded like a team really in tune with the coaching group. Lost my voice by the end . Noted how dominant harry wilson is, faesler looks very good at hooker, vunivalu had his best game I’ve seen, Isaac Henry had good gain line mid field , tandem lynagh then hmp worked. Zane nongorr gets better each week. The negative was tates passing dropping off with fatigue in second half .

my favourite was a story mentioning a Reds 18 player who “is a league boy at heart”. I know the family and he played one season of meninga cup and had no intention of paying league. It was farcical. It fit the narrative of the U18 etc being feeder for NRL though.

Reds seem to be getting good crowd turn outs for the trial games against wild knights and for the force tomorrow at ballymore. This is despite virtually no marketing aside from social media. Maybe dont make them trial games but an actual comp ie off season competiton between SRAU teams . Also gives opportunity for the fringe players to play instead of holding tackle bags. Get the teams rolling before the SR comp. Could have a second local round post SR . I agree the season seems too short compared to NRL / AFL .

Is that a direct quote because I actually saw the interview on fox and that’s not how I remember it. I do remember him saying it was a toxic environment and it was having an effect on him but I do not recall him saying he wouldn’t play for Australia .

It’s disappointing that he couldn’t see an opportunity be part of a rebuild of rugby as a sport in AUS. Again it’s a waste of coaching and development for a player like this to depart but it’s his choice. I’m hoping another outside back steps up that is more committed to the sport. I wouldn’t be inclined to pick someone for the 2027 wc who has left the sport when the sport really needs commitment from leaders within it including players.

I really hope this is a positive change but hasn’t Herbert been on this board the whole time and involved in many of the bad decisions ? The centralisation talk is already being softened. What is the timeline? When will we see a plan.
It’s a bit like the government spruiking the change of reserve bank governor. The new governor had been assistant governor for over ten years. Why would you expect any meaningful change? Fingers crossed Herbert is successful for the sport.

A big concern I have for an incoming chair is potential cowing to intimidation of the states. They will have flexed and demonstrated who has the real power in AUS rugby. I would like to see the rebel states put on notice to publish their ideas now for centralisation with some detail. If the states wield this power then they need to own the problems too. Perhaps some articles from journos on the relative strengths and weaknesses of the state rugby organizations and the boards that run them would be a good thing. The federated model of AUS rugby seems pretty outdated and destined to be beholden to parochialism but theres no changing that right now. It’s a governance mess. HM really overstepped in his position as chair with Eddie and sualii , hopefully Phil Waugh will now resume running all operations with highest priority centralization. board members at both state and federal levels should stay in their lanes.

I am no Hamish fan but I hope this isn’t just riding the coat tails of anger against him to kill off centralization. . I’d prefer he stay and get that job done rather than go and just have more of the same state and national failures . As I said in a previous post all of the state boards have been presiding over failing businesses – most don’t make money and all have been failing at winning rugby comps. So why aren’t we holding the state boards accountable as well ?
