Alaalatoa's classy act after getting sent off for sickening high shot

By The Roar / Editor

Good to see the Brumbies captain do this… but he still might be facing a stint on the sidelines.

Train did you happen to see the Wasps player sent off? he did a front on tackle and clashed heads...AA deserved to be sent under current rules but geez to be sent for a head clash is a bit harsh.

looks like he's been copying Owen Farrel or Ma'a Nonu on tackling technique, shoulder 1st with a token arm swing round the back to make it look like he was wrapping the arms

Yeah maybe. Paul Cully described it as a ‘mistimed hit’ and ‘not thuggery’, which I think is true. 3 weeks doesn’t seem unreasonable though.

Think you are correct TWAS. Although he shouldn't have a clean record. Should have been done for a high shot on Harrison last year.

Doubtful. It wasn’t an unexpected drop, it was a standard drop into contact. AAA has a clean record so likely 6 weeks, then halved for his clean record.

To be honest I thought the Rebels player had a significant drop at the last moment. It still justified a red card, but I wonder whether we might see a slightly shorter suspension than otherwise.

It was an uncharacteristically vicious shot from AAA. He’s always struck me as a tough but clean player.

Every ball carrier drops their body height into contact. It’s only when a player slips or similar resulting in a quick, large drop that the defender can’t anticipate it. What a defender is supposed to do is it basically jump, already fully upright, into contact.

Not go from low to high. Not lead with the shoulder. Accept that you got beaten in the positioning and go for a tackle that isn't trying to be dominant.

He has a very clean record and was clearly contrite about the damage caused. He will also plead guilty. Based on other punishments that should get him down to 3 weeks.

7A's just flat out aimed too high. It was exactly the sort of high shot that World Rugby is desperate to get out of the game. Six weeks of sideline is the starting point. What factors get it reduced? Do they apply here?

Hardly touching moment - what did he do - flick him on the head?

tough call - the ball carrier dropped his body height just before impact - what are you supposed to do as a defender?
