Eddie Jones fears for World Cup inconsistency after Scott Barrett's 'ridiculous' red card

By The Roar / Editor

England coach Eddie Jones says he fears the World Cup could be impacted by “inconsistent” use of red cards following his side’s win over Wales.

Jones pointed to a pair of incidents he bizarrely wouldn’t specify from England’s 33-19 victory which he says flew in the face of All Blacks lock Scott Barrett’s send-off during New Zealand’s loss to the Wallabies.

The England boss described the decision to show Barrett a red card “ridiculous”, adding that “common sense” has to be applied.

Jones says World Rugby must act to ensure officials are on the same page when it comes to what warrants a send-off.

Not sure why Crotty keeps getting brought up in this? First contact on him was made at 50:33 in the game, he was on his feet within 5s of first contact. How was that milking it? The Frenchman got him in a good tackle which caused him to hit the ground with force, the referees whistle was blown at 50:34. Crotty didn't have time to milk it?

Nice one Eddie. You wouldn't be sweating on losing Farrell to one of his ill-judged high-shots by any chance? Tell you what old mate -how about you walk the talk? We'll pick a 117kg lock to shoulder into your head - you tell us what a non-event it was.

The other option I guess is you don't hit another player in the neck with your shoulder and elbow. Might be easier, just spitballing.

If it was consistent with World Rugby, so that is that, why then is the judiciary hearing taking so long to determine the penalty

It is a lot more common than just Crotty’s display. The over selling of contact (or diving) has been creeping in for a while now. I know a ref can sometimes miss the dive or flopping over the floor like an Italian soccer player, but surly after the game an official can site them for binging the game into disrepute?

Stopping Shoulder charges to the head is ridiculous and World rugby should be ashamed of making refs penalize players for doing so... you muppet... how do you think that anything like that should have eve been allowed in the game?

Soon? It is already here sadly. Remember Ryan Crotty last year against France?

Yes that’s a good point. Farrell’s got a high tackle problem so can understand his anxiety but the one Welsh hit I saw was clearly a whack to the head and therefore red card. Soon you’re going to have the footballet imitators... get your head touched and writhe around the ground screaming in pain holding the head while the replays are on.

That Law as applied the other day to Scott Barrett will decimate the World Cup upcoming as there's no possible way that every Referee will see the ridiculous Law in the exact same light as written! ~ Stupid and dumb whoever thought it up, absolutely ridiculous because don't be surprised if you don't see half a dozen players sitting on the sideline having gained red cards for that very Law! ~ Hooper should be asked to explain as to why he whined in the Frog Referees' ear earlier. planting a seed in Garces ear, and it worked after he milked it for all it's worth getting up with a grin from ear to ear! The Wallabies won ONE GAME, good grief and they haven't won anything yet, next weekend boys, be afraid, very afraid!!

I thought it was the consistency part that everyone thought was fine about that shoulder and elbow on Hooper. The Ref explained it well at the time, it was consistent with World Rugby, so that is that. If you don't like the rule, and it sounds like Cheik is not sold on it, that is another thing entirely.

Sounds Like he might be worried about Owen Farrell and his tendencies to not use his arms while tackling.
